Sightlines to the outside world: As we all know, an integral component of Disneyland has always been the berm that separates it from the outside world, and careful attention to sightlines so the outside world is rarely visible from within the berm. This is central to the whole experience because the very thesis of Disneyland is, well, to “leave today.” As we also know, DCA was originally constructed without a berm and without much concern about sightlines to the outside world (with the retrospective justification that “it takes place in California anyway”). This started to be rectified with Cars Land, which carefully blocked any views of the outside would (even arranging the mountain range to block specific power line poles). It seemed to be understood that this would benefit the guest experience and thus help continue differentiating Disney from its growing competition. But then it stopped. Power lines are still clearly visible behind Avengers Campus and behind the Hyperion waiting area. The Anaheim Convention Center and many hotels are still clearly visible behind Pixar Pier – and this has gotten much worse with the construction of large new buildings across Katella Ave. Will the forthcoming changes to DCA include efforts to mitigate these sightline issues? The Avengers e-ticket seems like it will block the sightlines to the power line poles, as was probably always the plan. Will the apparently-coming Hyperion replacement block sightlines to the power line poles from that vantage point? The biggest offender is,
Maybe it’s just me, but with how long anything takes to be built these days, its getting harder and harder for me to get excited. I’ll be 45 in July, and already have back problems. When I see an announcement, I’m always like “Cool… maybe I’ll ride that when I’m in my 50s when it finally opens, if I can still even do this stuff” lol
What modern tools are needed to implement a business idea?
So what do you guys/gals think Disney should do with this eye-sore of a land? Is there enough guts here to just plus or re-imagine this land? Or is it in such a disarray that leveling it and making something new and fresh the better route? Like to this day Im in awww…how leadership can sit back and watch this land deteriorate, while giving off the vibe of “move right along nothing to see here”? Like come on Disney…why are you not putting in any effort aside from some new paint and flower gardens. Im just still in awww how this is acceptable by any theme park standards? Like are there any other lands in all of Disney’s parks that are just so freaking embarrassing and left -unattended like we have here at Disneyland?! Like come on, this was Walts true pride and joy.
Circumcision Ban Stirs Controversy In San Francisco A San Francisco man is spear-heading an effort to outlaw male circumcision in the city. Lloyd Schofield claims to have already collected more than half of the required signatures for a petition to put the issue up for a popular vote on the city’s November ballot, but the effort has drawn widespread criticism from Jewish groups who practice circumcision as an important religious ritual. With all the kerfuffle over the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island being replaced with a Cars area, some claiming it violates the “frontier” theming of Frontierland, I heard an interesting theory from the Disney History Institute podcast. The host, Todd Pierce, theorized that Disney may actually be planning a “reboot” of Frontierland, one not themed around American civilization of the past (cowboys and pioneers having a more complicated reputation nowadays), but instead the American wilderness as it exists now. From my point of view, it makes sense; the Cars and Country Bear attractions could suggest Yellowstone-type forests, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad brings to mind the buttes and mesas of the western U.S., and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is designed to be like swamplands found in the southeast. Pierce even said that Liberty Square could end up the chopping block as well, with the Haunted Mansion being annexed into the new “Villains Land” and the Hall of Presidents (which has seen low attendance and polarized discourse in recent years) going away. What are your opinions on this theory?
I’ve read that DL only allows service dogs now. Cool, I respect that, even though I think miniature horses would have been fun to see (though one student of mine had a service rat, not welcome in DL, no surprise lol). I once saw a service dog really enjoying* IASW in the boat just ahead of us, but that just made me wonder how many other rides they can ride (Columbia? Mark Twain? …Canoes? Peter Pan? Mr Toad? Merry-go-round?), and which they absolutely can’t (coasters seem an obvious “no,” but spinning rides? ST? Millenium Falcon? GRR?). I’m so curious! Further question: What happens with the service dog if the owner (who is otherwise alone) wants to ride a ride that the service animal can’t? I hope this isn’t an issue already addressed by the published rules of admission, sorry if it is! Please just tell me if it is, and I’ll read it all again, then probably delete this thread. Thanks! *Smiling broadly paying close attention to characters, sitting calmly, etc. A big dog, too. I wonder if JC would scare him?
