Analysts Predict That International Tourist Spending May Not Recover Until 2024!

The Orlando Sentinel reported today that international tourist spending in the United States might not return to pre-coronavirus levels until 2024, the former head of Florida’s tourism-marketing agency told members of the Economic Club of Florida this week. Christopher Thompson, president and CEO of Brand USA, said this did not paint a sunny picture for a state that relies heavily on tourism. Thompson made an in-person appearance this past Wednesday at the Governor’s Club in Tallahassee and said that even with a vaccine for the coronavirus, consumers will need to be confident about their health while traveling and while at the destinations. “Today’s environment is the worst we’ve ever faced,” Thompson said. “While the rest of the economy is in a recession, the travel industry is in a depression.” Thompson, who served as chief operating officer and president of Visit Florida a decade ago, also stated that more than 50 percent of the hospitality industry is facing unemployment. Brand USA, focused on international travel to the states, has scaled back spending from up to $15 million a month to less than $2 million, preparing campaigns for when the travel market gears back up. Thompson stated that Brand USA is waiting for people to once again “be inspired” about traveling to the United States. “We’re not forcing it on them. It’s more organic,” he said. “We’re giving them a chance to do it.” The Orlando Sentinel also reports that Visit Florida has set aside $13 million to market toward a tourism

The Rohdes, Less Traveled: Inside the Design and Inspiration of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park

Our family has been at home together since March, and life can get repetitive at times. So, to pass away the hours and give ourselves something to do as a family, we decided to create a five-part video series about design at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. In our family of four we have multiple writers, a director and cameraman, a producer…and a talking head (me). Plus a house full of  (as the saying goes, ‘one man’s junk is another man’s treasure!’) that we’ve dragged back from all over the world during the last 40 years. The challenge is to work with what we have, therefore limited only to the photographs and video clips that I have on my own laptop and snapshots that I found in a box in my studio, plus settings we’ve improvised in our house and yard. Since we are not going anywhere, it’s called “The Rohdes, Less Traveled”… The post The Rohdes, Less Traveled: Inside the Design and Inspiration of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park appeared first on The Kingdom Insider. Grandma Who Was Arrested at Disney for Having CBD Oil, Now Suing the Resort!

The grandmother who claims she was arrested at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom for having CBD oil in her bag is following through with her threat to sue. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump just filed suit against Disney, the Orlando Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department on behalf of Hester Burkhalter. The 69-year-old North Carolina grandma claims she was busted by security for carrying a bottle of CBD oil. According to the lawsuit, Hester says she was arrested and detained by cops at Disney World in April 2019 — even though she claims the CBD oil was purely for medical purposes related to her arthritis, and didn’t contain THC. The grandmother says she was handcuffed in front of her 8 and 10-year-old grandchildren, and says the entire ordeal was traumatizing for the little ones. In the docs, grandma says she panicked while being placed in the back of a police car and began vomiting, but was denied medical attention and subjected to a miserable 15-hour ordeal. Hester says she was further humiliated because cops allegedly made her strip down at the jail for a cavity search. Prosecutors did not pursue charges and closed the case against her — Hester claims cops even tested the CBD oil and found no trace of THC — but she says she’s filing suit because she still feels traumatized. In her suit, Hester is alleging assault and battery, false arrest and imprisonment, defamation, emotional distress, and more … and she wants more than

Disney Eyeing Tom Hanks to Star in Live Action Pinocchio!

Hanks, 64, is reportedly in early negotiations to play the part of Pinocchio’s humble toy creator, Geppetto, in a live-action remake of the 1940 Walt Disney animated classic. Deadline reported that, after reading the script, Hanks reached out to director Robert Zemeckis, 68, to express his interest in being in the film. The pair have a decades-long working relationship — both won Oscars for their work on 1994’s “Forrest Gump,” which Zemeckis directed. Disney has long been gunning to cast Hanks as the wood-carving Italian father in a reimagining of the classic story of the wooden puppet boy. The company approached him about the part years ago, when a Paul King-directed “Pinocchio” remake was in the works, according to Deadline. That production was never made, though. The outlet believes that Hanks and Zemeckis’ significant history together bodes better for this incarnation of the project.
