Disney Donates Thousands of Books

We recently visited Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California alongside our friends at Blue Star Families to make magic for some military families there by sharing the joy of reading and making meaningful family connections. Disney has enduring gratitude for those who serve in uniform and their families, and our collaboration with this nonprofit and their Blue Star Books program is among the many ways we honor those who serve. During the event at Camp Pendleton on June 8, U.S. military children and their families received free Disney books and enjoyed other activities, including hearing a story read by a military service member and Disney VoluntEAR from Disneyland Resort and reading-themed crafts. Mickey Mouse also made a special appearance to the delight of the families there. “The Walt Disney Company is honored to have worked with Blue Star Families for more than a decade to celebrate military and veteran families,” said Jessica Moore, vice president of government relations for The Walt Disney Company. “This collaboration shares the magic of our stories with the hope it inspires these military children to become the next generation of storytellers.”  For retired Marine Corps Warrant Officer and current Disneyland cast member Ariel Elias, returning to Camp Pendleton to make magic for military families was extra special. “Military family life is both exciting and challenging so it’s special being able

Summer is almost here and “Inside Out 2” just premiered, so it was only fitting that the cast of the Disney+ Original series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, who happen to be huge fans of the film, popped over to Disneyland Resort to experience the coolest event of the summer: Pixar Fest!   Walker Scobell (Percy), Leah Sava Jeffries (Annabeth), and Aryan Simhadri (Grover Underwood) visited Disney California Adventure Park during Pixar Fest, a celebration of friendship and beyond happening throughout Disneyland Resort through August 4. And if you ever wanted to know what the trio’s favorite emotions are from the film, Walker is partial to Anger, Leah loves Joy, and Aryan is a fan of Riley’s newest emotion, Anxiety.  Leah, Aryan, and Walker couldn’t do a day at Disney California Adventure without taking a dash around Pixar Pier on the Incredicoaster! It was a thrilling start to their day before heading over to meet a duo nearby.  The timing of Pixar Fest is perfectly aligned with the release of one of the biggest movies of the summer: “Inside Out 2”! Discover the Most Creative and Quackiest Disney Cast Member Tradition

Last week, cast members across the world made a splash competing in what could be the quackiest Disney cast member tradition in history. To celebrate 90 years of Donald Duck, cast at Disneyland Resort, Hong Kong Disneyland and Disneyland Paris went beak-to-beak reimagining a rubber duck into beloved Disney characters, attractions and more! What started as a race through the iconic Disneyland “it’s a small world” attraction has now migrated across the globe uniting hundreds of cast members. Teams over in Hong Kong Disneyland took a different approach to the event by creating a duck scavenger hunt and rubber duck fashion contest in honor of Donald’s 90th anniversary. Cast were encouraged to search for ducks and then take them home to create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.  This hand-knit Snow White rubber duck designed by Winnie Lo is the craftiest of them all! Winnie, a cast member at Hong Kong Disneyland, was inspired by her love of handmade crafts and knitting and loved seeing all the cast members’ creativity come to life at this event. She shared, “It was great getting to make new friends through this fun event!”

Matterhorn Bobsleds Turns 65 at Disneyland

This week, one of the most beloved attractions in Disney history, the Matterhorn Bobsleds, marks its 65th anniversary at Disneyland Resort. And to celebrate, we’ve dug up a batch of fascinating historical photos that may just make you yell – Yodel-Lay-Hee-Hoo! Walt to Imagineers: “Build This”  The idea for the iconic Matterhorn Bobsleds really started during a 1950s trip to Switzerland.   As many of you know, Walt and his wife Lillian enjoyed Switzerland, as you can see in the above classic photo from the Walt Disney Family Museum. Walt fell in love with the country’s breathtaking landscape, especially the Matterhorn mountain – known as the “jewel of the Swiss Alps.”  In 1958, when Walt was in Switzerland, the giant, jagged tooth-shaped Matterhorn mountain — as well as the Disney film, “Third Man of the Mountain” (being filmed at the Matterhorn) — delivered a flash of inspiration.  During the trip, the often-recalled story goes that Walt sent a postcard back home to his Disney Imagineers featuring a picture of the mountain and the words “BUILD THIS” on the back.  Plans to bring this mountain to California began after Walt’s Switzerland trip – as you can see above in this vintage photo of Walt with a model of the attraction.   While Matterhorn mountain towers over all that surrounds it in Switzerland at nearly 14,700 feet, it was determined that the Disneyland version would
