The statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse on the corner of Buena Vista Street and Hollywood Blvd in Disney California Adventure is currently surrounded by construction walls. It was last refurbished in 2020.

The “Storytellers” statue features a 1920s-era Walt in a fedora and traveling attire — just off the train from Missouri and ready to realize his dreams with his pal, Mickey. However, it’s surrounded by construction walls as of February 24, 2026.

Because it is made of bronze, it may have oxidized—leading to a more intensive restoration than a regular polishing. However, we are unsure what the walls are for. It could be related to restoring the statue, or it could be blocked off for another reason.

Pictured above is what it usually looks like.

A plaque just to the right of the statue tells the story of Walt Disney’s arrival in Los Angeles in 1923 in his own words:

It was July 1923. I packed all of my worldly goods – a pair of trousers, a checkered coat, a lot of drawing materials and the last of the fairy tale reels we had made – in a kind of frayed cardboard suitcase. And with that wonderful audacity of youth, I went to Hollywood, arriving there with just forty dollars. It was a big day the day I got on that Santa Fe California Limited. I was just free and happy!

Another says “We are just getting started.”

We hope the walls come down soon so guests can enjoy the “Storytellers” statue! Are you visiting Disney California Adventure soon? Let us know on social media.
