Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is getting in on the festivities with Lunar New Year treats and decor.

Grand Californian Hotel Lunar New Year Decor

The Grand Californian Hotel began participating in the Lunar New Year celebrations in 2024 when they debuted lobby decor, including a giant dragon suspended from the ceiling. The large dragon did not return this year, and has been replaced with decor fitting the Year of the Snake.

People in the Grand Californian Hotel lobby admire a large Mickey Mouse-shaped topiary display on a circular table, beautifully surrounded by colorful lanterns celebrating Lunar New Year.

A green snake is sitting on a table in the center of the lobby, surrounded by hanging paper lanterns. Each lantern is a different color, and a few contain Hidden Mickeys. The snake is twisted into the very recognizable shape of a Mickey icon.

A vivid green snake sculpture on a pedestal, surrounded by colorful lanterns in a dimly-lit atrium at the Grand Californian Hotel, evokes the spirit of Lunar New Year celebrations with people seated in the background.

The snake is textured with multiple colors and patterns on closer inspection. The scales of the snake have an embossed scale pattern and small gold triangles represent the stripes on its belly.

The decorative red partition, adorned with floral and patterned designs, evokes the festive spirit of Lunar New Year, while bamboo plants add a touch of serenity reminiscent of the Grand Californian Hotel's elegant indoor spaces.

In one corner of the lobby, a three-sided photo op has been set up. The three walls are red with patterns of Lunar New Year items. Gold arches hold paper lanterns and ribbons above the walls. The space is framed by potted bamboo plants on either side. This space could also be used for talks or performances as the holiday celebrations continue.

Decorative screens in the hotel lobby showcase designs for Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, celebrating Lunar New Year 2025. Two potted bamboo plants elegantly flank the screens.

One more red sign in the lobby has the hotel wordmark above the ornate face of a red and gold dragon. On the right half of the sign, a twisted snake icon is outlined in gold below text saying “Lunar New Year 2025.” The snake is shaped like Mickey’s head, similar to the green snake on display.

Great Hall Cart Treats

Mickey-shaped Sugar Cookie – $10

Decorative cookies with red and gold accents feature a green and red swirl pattern, reminiscent of the vibrant Lunar New Year festivities. Packaged in clear wrapping on a gold backing, these treats are perfect for celebrating at places like the Grand Californian Hotel.

This cookie is shaped like Mickey and is a standard sugar cookie flavor. The front of the cookie has been drizzled with red frosting, and the sugar image of the green snake was placed on top. The edges of the white piece and the center of the ears have additional swirls of white frosting dusted with gold sprinkles.

Chocolate-covered Pretzel Rods – $16

Packaged pretzel sticks coated in red chocolate with white drizzle, tied with golden bows, are elegantly displayed on a wooden tray, perfect for celebrating Lunar New Year.

The pretzel rods are sold together in a set of five. Each rod is dipped and covered with red sprinkles. An extra line of white frosting and golden glitter is drizzled over the top.

Crisped Rice Treat – $9

A glass bowl filled with wrapped chocolates, each tied with a red ribbon, evokes the festive spirit of Lunar New Year celebrations at the Grand Californian Hotel.

The crispied rice treat is square and has a white sugar image of Mushu holding his gong. The front of the treat surrounding Mushu is covered in white frosting and dusted with more golden sprinkles. Each treat is sold individually and already wrapped in plastic.

An assorted macaron box is also currently listed on the Lunar New Year Cart menu for $21. However, when we visited on the first day, the macarons were not yet available.

Guests can also visit GCH Craftsman Grill & Bar for Dan Dan Noodles (Pork, seasoned noodles, peanut, green onions, sesame oil, garlic, and cilantro). The bar also has a special cocktail, the Moon Dragon (Premium soju, St-Germain, Hennessey V.S., cherry juice, plum bitters, and Luxardo cherries).

Lunar New Year runs at Disney California Adventure from January 17 – February 16.
