As of October 22, 2024, Marvel Studios has removed the “Blade” reboot, starring Mahershala Ali as the titular character, from its release calendar. It was previously dated for November 7, 2025.

According to Variety, this indefinite delay of the film was “widely expected,” after Disney CEO Bob Iger said that Marvel would release “a maximum of three” movies per year during an earnings call in May. 2025 will already see the release of “Captain America: Brave New World,” “Thunderbolts*,” and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.”

“Blade” has gone through two directors since its announcement: Bassam Tariq (“Mogul Mowgli”), who departed the production in 2022; and Yann Demange (“Lovecraft Country”), who exited in June 2024. Marvel suspended pre-production on the film following the 2023 WGA strike, pushing the film back to November 2025. Before that, it was dated for September 6, 2024.

Wesley Snipes, the actor who portrayed Blade in the original trilogy of films from 1998-2004, took to Twitter to comment on the troubled reboot.

The reboot was first announced in 2019 at San Diego Comic-Con. Also known as Eric Brooks, Blade is able to wield vampiric powers without succumbing to their weakness to daylight, earning him the name “Daywalker.” His mission? To eradicate vampires from the Earth.

In addition to the removal of “Blade” from the docket, three untitled Marvel projects have received release dates: February 18, 2028, May 5, 2028, and November 10, 2028.

Though the film may now be a long ways off, a video game featuring Blade is still in development from Marvel Games and Bethesda Softworks.
