The former MCA Inc. president who made Universal Pictures what it is today has returned to Universal Studios Florida. The Lew Wasserman statue was removed from the park over eight months ago but has a new home next to the Universal Studios Florida lagoon.

Lew Wasserman Statue

A statue of a man stands proudly in the outdoor plaza, surrounded by trees and lampposts. Visitors stroll by under a clear blue sky, with buildings in the background. This is the new location for the Lew Wasserman Statue at Universal Studios Florida.

The Lew Wasserman statue now stands in Universal Studios Florida’s Central Park, facing away from the water. Crews were completing the statue’s installation when we arrived at the park this morning.

The statue was previously in the New York area, at a fork in the road leading into the San Francisco area. In the past, the statue would be temporarily removed for Universal’s Holiday Parade. But his May 2024 removal was a permanent change.

A white stone pedestal with an engraved plaque stands proudly at the new location, surrounded by greenery. Nearby, a person gazes upon the Lew Wasserman Statue along a concrete path, reminiscent of the iconic scenes found at Universal Studios Florida.

The Wasserman statue stands on a white pedestal with a plaque reading:

Lew Wasserman

Chairman Emperius MCU – Universal Studios

March 22, 1913 – June 3, 2002

Lew R. Wasserman was one of the most highly regarded figures in the entertainment industry. For decades, he had guided the course of film, television, music and recreation as well as the worlds of politics and philantrhopy. During his career, he built MCU, later renamed Universal Studios, into a pre-eminent entertainment company, and simultaneously transformed the industry through his innovation, creativity and vision.

Wasserman joined MCA (Music Corporation of America) in 1936 at age 23. It was Wasserman who recommended the company move from Chicago to Hollywood in 1939. By 1948, he was president of the company. Under Wasserman’s leadership, MCA took ownership of Universal Pictures in the 1960s and continued to transform the entertainment industry. MCU became Universal Studios, Inc. in 1996.
