During a recent trip to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we noticed a pair of Walt Disney World road signs that are so faded, that they are difficult to read.

Faded Walt Disney World Road Signs

A view of the highway showcases faded road signs, hinting at directions for exits, surrounded by trees under a cloudy sky.

The signs are located above the road when leaving Disney’s Animal Kingdom. They’re two of the few remaining purple road signs, although the color is almost entirely gone. The red stripes and yellow lettering on the bottom of the signs are still clear, but the white lettering on the rest of the sign is almost illegible.

The sign on the left directs guests straight ahead to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, and Magic Kingdom. More visible than the words are symbols for I-4, 192, Orlando International Airport, and Florida’s Turnpike South.

The sign on the right tells guests to take the next right for Disney’s All-Star Resort, Blizzard Beach, and Coronado Springs. The symbols are for SR 429 and Florida’s Turnpike North.

The signs will hopefully be replaced soon, likely with the blue signs that are becoming standard at Walt Disney World.

Sussman/Prejza designed the purple road signs for Walt Disney World and Euro Disney (now known as Disneyland Paris). They were installed in the 1990s and were intended to create “a vehicular signing system that would be unique in spirit, clean, easy to follow, and capable of being expanded as the area continues to grow.”
