Eric Dane, commonly known for playing “McSteamy” on Grey’s Anatomy, passed away yesterday. He was 53 years old.
Eric Dane Passes Away

Dana Walden, the upcoming President & Chief Creative Officer for Disney, and Bob Iger, outgoing Disney CEO, posted on Instagram to memorialize the recent passing of Eric Dane.
As Walden noted, it’s now been 20 years since Eric Dane first appeared on Grey’s Anatomy as Dr. Mark Sloan, the head of plastic surgery at the hospital. He was commonly known as “McSteamy” because of his handsome appearance (and as a contrast to Dr. Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd, played by Patrick Dempsey). Walden said that “Eric was a cherished member of our ABC and Disney family, whose presence on and off screen left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of working with him.”
Iger also mourned the loss of Eric Dane and how he was “an important and beloved member of the Grey’s Anatomy cast.”
