Construction has not yet begun on the second Storyliving by Disney community, Asteria, which will be located in North Carolina.

The community will be in Pittsboro, Chatham County near Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. Pittsboro realtor Eric Andrews told CBS 17 that a wastewater issue delayed construction but there is now a plan to resolve the issue and move forward.

CBS 17 also stated there have been concerns about protecting the environment around the nearby Haw River. The non-profit Haw River Assembly asked Disney in an open letter to limit the environmental impacts of the development’s roads, lights, and noise. They requested the river, water quality, and surrounding trees be protected.

Disney announced Asteria last December amid hype for Cotino, the first Storyliving by Disney community. Cotino is under construction in Rancho Mirage, California, with residents expected to start moving in next year.

Cotino home prices are in the high one-millions. Disney has not announced pricing for Asteria, but they anticipate opening sales in 2027. The community is planned for 4,000 residences.

Chatham Economic Development Corporation president, Michael Smith, previously told CBS 17, “As an economic developer, it’s a dream scenario that Disney has chosen your location for only the second development of this type in the whole country.”
