The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has agreed to extend the cruise “No Sail” order only through October. The “No Sail” order was previously set to expire today, September 30. The CDC originally wanted to extend it to February 15, 2021, but compromised with the White House Task Force to extend until Oct. 31, 2020. The CDC extension now matches up with the Cruise Line International Association’s voluntary no sail order. CLIA announced in August that its members (which include Disney Cruise Line) would not be sailing through October 31, 2020. CLIA also announced recently that it would implement new core elements mandatory on member ships. These elements include mandating crew and passenger testing, mask-wearing, enhanced cruise ship ventilation, stringent response procedures, and shore excursion protocols to make it safe to sail during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Based on what we are seeing in Europe, and following months of collaboration with leading public health experts, scientists, and governments, we are confident that these measures will provide a pathway for the return of limited sailings from the U.S. before the end of this year,” Kelly Craighead, president and CEO of CLIA, said in an overview of the elements. Disney Cruises won’t resume before December since Disney Cruise Line has suspended all sailings through at least December 6. Other cruise lines could resume sailing as early as November 1st, but the “No Sail”
