Yesterday, Oga’s Cantina rolled out a mini menu refresh, adding two new food items and four new drinks. We made it out to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios to review the new offerings from local crime boss Oga Garra’s watering hole. Here’s our Oga’s Cantina review for the November 2024 refresh!

Menu Design & Updates

The new physical menu follows the same style and outline of the previous menu. This new menu was printed November 17, 2024 and rolled out to the restaurant on November 18th. The featured drinks remain the Yub Nub and Fuzzy Tauntaun on the drinks side of the menu. On the reverse side, the Blue Bantha and Oga’s Obsession remain featured, along with the Grinning Loth Cat souvenir mug.

New Food Items at Oga’s Cantina

There are two new food items at Oga’s Cantina, offering a bit more substance than the existing (and remaining) snack offerings, but still snacks nonetheless. The Battu Bits and Happabore Sample remain on the menu, and they’re joined by the Umbaran Cheese Roll and Thruster Roasted Bantha Flatbread.

Umbaran Cheese Roll | $12.00

Spice-dusted Pretzel Bun stuffed with Herbed Cheese and a Dipping Sauce

The Umbaran Cheese Roll is named after the Umbarans, a slender near-human species known as the Shadow People. The planet of Umbara was known as the Shadow World due to a lack of sunlight on its surface. The plant life on Umbara commonly included bioluminescence, and the planet had large doonium reserves, used to build starships.

Due to their seclusion, the Umbarans were an extremely high-tech species, and they felt that the Separatists were a more worthy group to follow than the Republic. None of that matters for the delicious cheese roll we’re about to eat, but it’s fun to know a little bit of the backstory for the name of the dish.

Oga’s Cantina review 2024: Umbaran Cheese Roll

The four-bite cheese roll is a “spice-dusted” pretzel roll, designed to be pulled apart for sharing. That said, whoever gets to take the first bite might not be sharing this delicious snack.

I’ll say this as clearly as I can: this is the clear winner of the entire menu update. I’ll be sure to order this delicious, and slightly spicy cheese roll every time I visit Oga’s Cantina. At $12, it’s the cheapest food item on the menu and it’s wonderful. We’re told that the cheeses are Boursin, fontina, and smoked gouda. The smoked gouda carries the flavor profile, while the Boursin adds a creaminess that makes for an excellent dish.

The dish comes with a honey-mustard dipping sauce, but it quickly becomes an afterthought after your first bite into the pretzel cheese roll. I didn’t get a photo, but the roll does easily separate into four pieces thanks to deep cuts that also allow the cheese to sink into the roll.

Thruster Roasted Bantha Flatbread | $17.00

Naan Flatbread topped with Spiced Chorizo Beef and a Four-Cheese Blend

The Thruster Roasted Bantha Flatbread carries the Bantha name, which is a large, furry mammal that travels in herds through Tatooine’s desert waste. They are often seen being ridden by Tusken Raiders, and the two share a close, almost mystical bond. They’re also supposed to be delicious. The “Bantha” here is represented by a spiced chorizo beef, and there is supposed to be a four-cheese blend present.

As you can see below, the flatbread is shaped like a guitar pick, with a healthy amount of marinara on top and chorizo beef bits scattered throughout.

Oga’s Cantina review 2024: Thruster Roasted Bantha Flatbread

Unfortunately, we found our flatbread to be rather one-dimensional. The spiced chorizo was just ok, and the choice of marinara sauce instead of a more exotic sauce meant that this flatbread was rather pedestrian. That’s probably ok given that complaints to Oga over the years have likely included little to no food options and less-than-accessible dishes. This is a completely accessible dish that can serve the masses while we enjoy our cheese roll.

Note that in this case “spiced chorizo” doesn’t mean “spicy chorizo”. The beef was beef, and the cheese was essentially nowhere to be found. From a flavor perspective, this flatbread was best described as “standard”, mostly marinara and sausage-style beef bits.

New Drinks at Oga’s Cantina

Oga’s Cantina review 2024: new drinks

Along with the two new food items, there are four new drinks as well. The arrival of the four new drinks meant the departure of four drinks: the T-16 Skyhopper, the Dagobah Slug Slinger, the Bloody Rancor, and the Black Spire brew.

In addition to the four new alcoholic drinks that we’ll review below, there is a new non-alcoholic “Akivan Tea”, which is Lavender, Lemon Juice, Gold Peak® Unsweetened Tea garnished with a Lavender Sprig.

Corellian Spike Cold Brew | $18.00

Maker’s Mark Kentucky Straight Bourbon, Joffrey’s Coffee™ Cold Brew, Vanilla, Brown Sugar Syrup, Orange Bitters topped with Purple Vanilla-Ube Foam

We’ll work through the drink menu from best to worst, starting with the sleeper hit: the Corellian Spike Cold Brew. At first, I was kind of ok with skipping this drink for the review due to the rather divisive nature of a coffee-based alcoholic drink. Coffee isn’t for everyone, so spending $18 on a drink that sounds great to me might not make sense for a great number of people reading this review.

Heck, it still might not make sense, but I’d be lying if I said that it wasn’t the best new drink on the menu. The star of this drink is the Purple Vanilla-Ube Foam, which is not only creamy and wonderful as a foam, but when it starts to seep into the drink as you see it doing in the photo above, it starts to balance out the drink wonderfully.

In terms of Star Wars canon, “Corellian Spike” is a variation of the popular Sabacc card game. Most famously, Han Solo won the Millennium Falcon from Lando Calrissian thanks to a game of Corellian Spike. Guests who purchased the Sabacc set from Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge can play Corellian Spike, which has the goal of getting your card values closest to zero.

The Joffrey’s Cold Brew is an excellent choice as a solid base coffee for the drink. Once we got past some of the Purple Vanilla-Ube Foam, we started to enjoy more of the body of the drink, which offers plenty of flavor and some punch courtesy of the Maker’s Mark Kentucky Straight Bourbon.

This drink was good to the last sip, and probably the only drink I’ll order out of the new offerings instead of my go-to Jet Juice on a return visit.

Nysillin and Bubbles with Brub Berry Essence | $18.00

Empress 1908 Gin, St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur, Blueberry-Lime Juice topped with Tonic Water and garnished with an Edible Hibiscus Flower

In second place for us was the Nysillin and Bubbles with Brub Berry Essence. Nysillin is a common healing herb within the Star Wars galaxy that has a passing resemblance to the edible hibiscus flower in your drink, or at least, they might look similar once you finish the gin-based concoction.

The first thing you’ll notice is the bubbly structure of the drink thanks to the tonic water. The Blueberry-Lime Juice carries the flavor profile, which is fruity throughout. We felt that the alcohol here wasn’t overpowering for this easy-sipping drink.

The Sylop | $18.00

Del Maguey Vida Mezcal, Grapefruit Juice, Lime Juice, Agave, Jalapeño Concentrate, Chili-Lime-seasoned Rim

At the risk of getting too in the weeds here, the Sylop is simply a card in Sabacc with a value of zero.

In terms of this margarita-style drink, we thought that it was ok, but not as good as The Outer Rim, which remains on the menu. The mezcal flavor was present but manageable. Perhaps the highlight of the drink was the Chili-Lime-seasoned Rim, which presented a pop of tangy lime flavor paired with the spiciness of the chili. The spiciness really stayed with you after each sip.

Bloody Rancor with Candied Meat | $22.50

Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Ancho Reyes Chile Liqueur, House-made Bloody Mary Mix garnished with a Spicy Candied Rancor Bacon

The “Bloody Rancor” was an opening day offering for Oga’s Cantina, but initially limited to the breakfast hours. Disneyland has an “Angry Bloody Rancor” on the menu (a completely different drink), and the Walt Disney World “Bloody Rancor” was previously served with a meringue “bone”.

The bone is out and the bacon is in. The updated version of this Bloody Mary drink comes with “spicy candied rancor bacon”.

This was, by far, our least favorite drink of our visit. The house-made Bloody Mary Mix leaned more “shrimp cocktail” than tomato juice with the flavor, and it felt “thin” on the tongue in terms of texture. The candied bacon was delicious, and something that we wish Oga would be able to find a suitable drink for because the Bloody Rancor simply wasn’t good.

Oga’s Cantina Review 2024 Overview

Overall, the Oga’s Cantina menu refresh brings some much-needed food options, including an accessible flatbread and an outstanding cheese roll. The drink updates were largely average, with the standout being the bourbon coffee. We’re probably going to stick with our go-to drinks, and certainly avoid the Bloody Rancor, but I’ll likely include the new Corellian Spike Cold Brew from time to time as well.
