As of closing time on Monday, September 1, an original Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park attraction is now extinct. Disney cast members shared a bittersweet goodbye to The Boneyard, the play area that opened alongside DinoLand U.S.A. in April 1998. The writing was on the wall for The Boneyard when, at D23 Expo 2024, Walt Disney Imagineers officially confirmed plans to build a Tropical Americas-themed land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. The land, Pueblo Esperanza, will replace DinoLand U.S.A. with two Encanto (2021) attractions and an Indiana Jones retheme of DINOSAUR. Credit: Disney Much of DinoLand U.S.A., including Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, TriceraTop Spin, and Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama, closed permanently in January 2025. Construction walls appeared shortly after, and the entire area has since been bulldozed to make way for the Encanto rides. Walt Disney World Resort confirmed that DINOSAUR, Trilo-Bites, and Restaurantosaurus will remain open through the end of 2025, at which point DinoLand U.S.A. will be considered closed. However, it wasn’t until June that Disney sealed the fate of The Boneyard, an interactive playground for young guests. Credit: Brittany DiCologero, Inside the Magic In June, after months of speculation, Walt Disney World Resort confirmed that the final day to experience The Boneyard would be September 1, 2025. Now, that day has come. On Monday, X (formerly known as Twitter) user @Nickpalermo824 shared this video of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park cast members giving the final closing spiel for The Boneyard:
I’m a miniature maker as my main hobby, and I like to combine my love for miniatures with my passion for Disney (Here’s a link to some of my work on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Miniaturelandia). I’m especially interested in early Disneyland – the version of the park that Walt knew. For my next project, I am going to recreate Main Street U.S.A. as it appeared on opening day in large-scale miniature (1:12/dollhouse scale). This is extremely ambitious (and a bit crazy!), but this scale will allow incredible detail both inside and out. It will take many years, but the finished result will be truly one of a kind. Viewers will be transported back in time to view the Main Street that Walt knew up close and personal. I’m choosing to start with Main Street Station. It’s the perfect intro for this project. Naturally, I want these structures to be as accurate as possible. It is proving difficult, however, to track down quality blueprints and interior photos of the station. I’ve found one blueprint sheet that contains the main elevations, but I have searched in vain for a couple of years to find any other blueprint sheets. There is also a stark shortage of interior photos of the station as it appeared on opening day. I’ve scoured online resources including Yesterland and Daveland, but haven’t been able to track much down to go off of. I guess it makes sense that visitors back then wouldn’t want to waste film by
Back in 2021, it was reported that Warner Bros. had teamed up with HBO to create a brand-new series based on J.K. Rowling’s life-changing Harry Potter books. However, both Warner Bros. and HBO denied those claims, saying there was no such series in development. Two years later, in April 2023, the companies announced that there was actually a series in development. Now, more than two years after the series’ confirmation, casting for many major roles has been announced. Filming has begun in the United Kingdom, even going back to some of the original sets and locations. The series is expected to be released in early 2027. On September 1, it was announced that Warwick Davis would be returning to the series to play Professor Flitwick, the beloved Charms professor and head of Ravenclaw house. Davis will be joined by newcomers and seasoned veterans, including Dominic McLaughlin (Harry Potter), Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger), Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley), John Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore), Janet McTeer (Minerva McGonagall), Nick Frost (Hagrid), and Paapa Essiedu (Severus Snape), just to name a few. The series has been controversial since the initial 2021 announcement. Many dedicated fans felt that it was too soon to make a new Harry Potter television show, especially since the last film just came out in 2011. However, there were some who were thrilled to hear that the series will go deeper into the books than
First Track Removed from Rivers of America as Frontierland Transformation into Piston Peak Continues Big changes are rolling through Frontierland, and Disney has just taken a major step in transforming the Rivers of America into the all-new Piston Peak area. I’m planning my next trip for after Spring Break, before Summer next year. Things I know for sure, I will be using travel points for the hotel and air, flying into John Wayne and using the EVE shuttle from ART to get to my hotel (I’m traveling solo, this is definitely the cheapest transportation option I know of at $15 each way). I will be doing 5 days at Disneyland and DCA for sure, I want to have 2 full rest days, and one day of other sightseeing. Last year that day was at Universal but unfortunately I gained enough weight during the covid shutdowns that I have had trouble losing, that I can’t do most of the rides there (Mummy, and Potter were a No, Mario was a yes, but it was the only ride with a test seat that I attempted that was a yes). I’m considering the D23 Disney Studio tour then maybe dipping up to Universal Citywalk to see if they have anything I’d want to buy, plus maybe grab some voodoo donuts to bring back to the hotel. But, I don’t know how I would be getting to those places yet, I feel like uber/lyft would be way too expensive to justify, and public transportation would take too long to justify. Last year I used the Anaheim Tour Company to get to and from Universal, not sure if I could work a deal with them where I ride with a groups of folks
New Construction Walls Go Up at Disney’s Transportation and Ticket Center On our way to Disney’s Magic Kingdom today, we noticed fresh construction walls popping up at the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC). The work appears to be focused on the ticket windows located to the left of the main entrance. Related: Cinderella Castle Is […]
Monday, September 1, 2025, is the final day to experience Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disneyland Park as we know it. That includes the fictional town of Rainbow Ridge, part of the Frontierland roller coaster inspired by its predecessor, Mine Train Through Nature’s Wonderland. Last month, Disneyland Resort announced that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad would close for a lengthy refurbishment beginning September 2–exactly 46 years after the roller coaster debuted in Frontierland in 1979. Unlike many Disney Park maintenance projects, this refurbishment has no end date. Disneyland Resort’s operational calendar currently goes through October 13, 2025, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is still listed as “no times available” (closed) on that date. Credit: Disney In response to a Reddit post from u/NaiRad1000 about the upcoming refurbishment, many Disney Parks fans expressed disappointment that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be closed for so long. With Disneyland Forward appearing to start taking shape soon I was wondering if anyone has a solid list of the land Disney owns in the area. Like I know there was news earlier this year that they purchased the offsite parade warehouse they had been renting, and we know about Company D, I’ve also seen posts about them potentially owning some of the low housing land next to the Toy Story parking lot, and the Candy Cane Inn. With where they are putting Coco I assume at least some of the current backstage buildings might need to get moved offsite too(?) Also, so far Micecast is the only source I’ve heard mention this, but they said that Disney has plans to extend Downtown Disney into the current shuttle drop off area when the Eastern Gateway opens, so not just Avatar and the pedestrian bridge going in that plot of land but apparently more downtown Disney and maybe even a new hotel was what it sounded like.
