I’m a miniature maker as my main hobby, and I like to combine my love for miniatures with my passion for Disney (Here’s a link to some of my work on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Miniaturelandia). I’m especially interested in early Disneyland – the version of the park that Walt knew. For my next project, I am going to recreate Main Street U.S.A. as it appeared on opening day in large-scale miniature (1:12/dollhouse scale). This is extremely ambitious (and a bit crazy!), but this scale will allow incredible detail both inside and out. It will take many years, but the finished result will be truly one of a kind. Viewers will be transported back in time to view the Main Street that Walt knew up close and personal.
I’m choosing to start with Main Street Station. It’s the perfect intro for this project. Naturally, I want these structures to be as accurate as possible. It is proving difficult, however, to track down quality blueprints and interior photos of the station. I’ve found one blueprint sheet that contains the main elevations, but I have searched in vain for a couple of years to find any other blueprint sheets.
There is also a stark shortage of interior photos of the station as it appeared on opening day. I’ve scoured online resources including Yesterland and Daveland, but haven’t been able to track much down to go off of. I guess it makes sense that visitors back then wouldn’t want to waste film by taking photos of random details/interiors.
If anyone out there would happen to have any blueprints or unique opening day/1955 photos (particularly interiors) of Main Street Station or Main Street U.S.A. in general and would be open to sharing, it would be very much appreciated!
