Shawn Levy has been developing a new “Star Wars” film and may be looking to Ryan Gosling to fill its lead role.
Shawn Levy’s New ‘Star Wars’ Film
According to a recent article from The Hollywood Reporter, Levy’s new “star Wars film is in development and he’s interested in having Ryan Gosling to star in the new movie.
The film is meant to be a stand-alone movie. Plot details have yet to be released and it’s unclear what “Star Wars” era the story would take place in. It is also reportedly unconnected to the Skywalker Saga. Lucasfilm has yet to comment regarding any impending deals or the project’s details.
The “Star Wars” film has been in development since 2022 with Jonathan Tropper working on a script for over a year. Levy has collaborated on other films with Tropper such as “This is Where I Leave You” and “The Adam Project.”
Levy is a three-time Oscar nominee and directed the 2024 film “Deadpool & Wolverine” which starred Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. There was a possibility for the filmmaker to be reunited with Reynolds and Jackman as he was previously looking to direct a boy band movie at Paramount.
However, with the possibility of Gosling being onboard for the “Star Wars” film, sources say the development would certainly pick up speed and potentially go into production this fall. The Mandalorian & Grogu wrapped up production in mid December and is set to be released May 22, 2026.
