The Buzz Lightyear animatronic in Magic Kingdom is now operating again after having just one day of downtime.

The Buzz Lightyear animatronic in the queue of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom is once again fully operational. Yesterday the animatronic was behind black curtains and hidden from guests’ views.

Recently, Walt Disney Imagineering filed a construction permit for new projectors at Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. While we anticipate the projector upgrades somewhere in the attraction, if not everywhere, it is very common that when the animatronic is broken it’s hidden behind a curtain for a short time.

A crowd waits in line inside a space-themed room, featuring a Buzz Lightyear figure and control panels with screens.

The most notable use of projections in the ride is inside a long tunnel where guests shoot at Emperor Zurg’s ship which is projected in space around them. The Buzz Lightyear animatronic in the queue line also has a projected face. Any or all of these projectors could be replaced by Disney.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin attraction opened at Magic Kingdom in 1998 and is inspired by the opening scene of “Toy Story 2.”
