YouTuber Kevin “Defunctland” Perjurer has released a new feature film-length video about the development of audio-animatronics, particularly the Abraham Lincoln figure that debuted at the ’64-’65 World’s Fair.
I think the fact that surprised me the most was that Abe was controversial back in the mid-60s. Some people thought it was disrespectful, even ghoulish, to try and accurately recreate a real historical person in robotic form. It provokes some thought about the upcoming animatronic of Walt and our reactions to the news…especially as Defunctland teases a continuation of the discussion addressing the Walt figure.
