According to some Deadline sources, the trilogy will be episodes 10, 11, and 12 of “The Skywalker Saga,” the main series of “Star Wars” films. Other sources indicated the films will start a new saga.

Kinberg will write and produce the films with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.

This isn’t Kinberg’s first “Star Wars” project. He co-created “Star Wars Rebels” with Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck, writing the series premiere and several other episodes. He consulted on “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.”

The trilogy is in early development. Kinberg is currently producing Paramount and Edgar Wright’s “The Running Man” and is set to produce Paramount’s next “Star Trek” movie.

Kinberg is more known for his Marvel work with 20th Century Fox, including writing “X-Men: The Last Stand,” “X-Men: First Class,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “X-Men: Apocalypse,” and “Logan.” He produced the first two “Deadpool” films and executive produced “Deadpool & Wolverine.” He wrote and made his directorial debut with the 2019 X-Men film “Dark Phoenix.”

Kinberg’s also wrote the screenplay for “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” (2005) and co-wrote “Sherlock Holmes” (2009). He produced Ridley Scott’s “The Martian” and Kenneth Branagh’s three Hercule Poirot films. He’s repped by CAA and Karl Austen at Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Several “Star Wars” projects are currently in the works. Coming up next is Disney+ series “Skeleton Crew.” “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” the first “Star Wars” film since “The Rise of Skywalker” (2019), will be released on May 22, 2026. Two unnamed “Star Wars” films are set for release on December 18, 2026, and December 17, 2027.

James Mangold is developing a film about the dawn of the Jedi. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is directing a film about the new Jedi Order under Rey, set 15 years after “The Rise of Skywalker.” Donald Glover is working on a “Lando” film.

Since 2017, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” director Rian Johnson has been attached to create another trilogy but there has been no recent news. A film by Taika Waititi has also been in development. Patty Jenkins has been working on and off on a “Rogue Squadron” film. An animated film called “A Droid Story” featuring R2-D2 and C-3PO is slated for Disney+. “Deadpool & Wolverine” director Shawn Levy has also been in talks to direct a “Star Wars” film.
