If you want to take a trip to Walt Disney World with as little stress as possible, staying at a hotel on the property is the way to go. Disney hotels offer convenience, transportation around the property, and resort amenities, making it the best way to enjoy your vacation. Of the many hotels to choose from, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort often falls to the wayside in favor of more well-known resorts. This begs the question: should you stay at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort?

Theming

The Pepper Market boasts a colorful restaurant interior with vibrant chairs, striped umbrellas, and a large decorative chicken statue. Ceiling lights and festive banners hang above, creating an inviting atmosphere.

Coronado Springs opened in 1997 and has undergone significant changes since, changing the vibe and atmosphere of the resort in almost every way. However, the resort has maintained its thematic influence of Spanish, Mexican, and Southwestern American cultures since the beginning.

Originally, the resort had more immersive themed spaces, such as the “Pepper Market,” a cafeteria-style dining location themed to a Mexican street with various vendors serving different foods.

Today, the resort has a classier design that fuses modern comforts with Disney touches. The theming now follows an American Colonial Spanish architectural style, which blends traditional Spanish elements with decorative details from other influences such as Moorish, Byzantine, Gothic, and Renaissance.

Dining

Coronado Springs offers a range of dining options from casual to upscale, as well as various bars and lounges.

  • Toledo – Tapas, Steak & Seafood: An upscaled rooftop restaurant serving Spanish-inspired cuisine
  • Three Bridges Bar & Grill at Villa del Lago: A restaurant with lakefront outdoor seating that serves sharable plates, sandwiches, and salads
  • Rix Sports Bar & Grill: A casual sports bar with a luxurious atmosphere and 31 TVs
  • Dahlia Lounge: A wine and cocktail lounge in a setting inspired by Spanish surrealism
  • Barcelona Lounge: A coffee and espresso lounge celebrating Spain’s rich coffee culture
  • Siestas Cantina: A poolside bar serving specialty cocktails, nachos, sandwiches, and other light fare
  • Maya Grill: A dedicated dining spot for Mexican cuisine inspired by Mayan motifs of fire, sun, and water
  • Cafe Rix: A counter location serving desserts such as smoothies, gelato, and pastries, as well as coffee, salad, and other light snacks
  • El Mercado de Coronado: The successor to Pepper Market, this location features “Grab & Go” food for any time of the day
  • Laguna Bar: A lakeside bar serving tequila, mezcal, and other unique cocktails

Amenities

Aside from the many dining and drinking options, Coronado Springs also features four pools, a salon, a fitness center, and a dance club. There is also a sand volleyball court, a white sand beach, and a walking trail.

The Coronado Springs Resort Convention Center is the largest and most prominent convention center on the property, making the resort very popular for corporate visitors and business retreats.

Accommodations

Coronado Springs houses 1,951 hotel rooms across four sections of the property: Casitas, Ranchos, Cabanas, and the newer Grand Destino Tower, which opened in 2019.

Since 2018, all rooms have been renovated with new beds, TVs, and new furnishing to match the modern style of the resort.

A sophisticated Gran Destino Tower room offers a modern waiting area with a patterned mirrored wall, tufted bench seating, and round metal tables on a colorful carpet.

Why Should You Stay Here?

With all of these offerings and details in mind, what makes this resort the best choice above all the others? While it comes down to personal preference and budget, this resort would best suit families seeking a balance between thematic fun and luxury. It is not as heavily themed as Disney’s Pop Century Resort, but not as high-class as Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. This resort would also be perfect for company retreats and corporate visits to Walt Disney World.

Most importantly, this resort is a great choice for fans of Spanish and Mexican cuisine and drinks such as tequila and mezcal. With fun pools and classy bars, there is truly something for every member of the family to enjoy.
