A Walt Disney World Resort guest recently spoke out online after cast members refused her entry to a ride because she violated the park’s dress code policies. The guest shared a video of her outfit, sparking debate among Disney Parks fans about whether it was appropriate for the family-friendly Central Florida theme parks.

This is hardly the first time the Disney dress code has been a topic of conversation on social media. In 2022, several TikTok videos went viral, encouraging guests to intentionally violate attire policies at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, because cast members would often give free t-shirts to guests who needed alternate clothing. This sparked a trend across the United States Disney parks, drawing so much attention that Disney stopped cast members from giving complimentary merchandise to visitors who violated the dress code. Now, guests who break the rules must purchase their own replacement clothing or return to their hotel rooms to change.

Earlier this month, Nicole Arena (@arenalifts on TikTok) made it into EPCOT without a confrontation over her outfit from security. Still, attraction cast members refused her entry to an attraction, “forcing” her to buy a $45 shirt after waiting an hour to ride. She posted this video, showing herself in only a sports bra (without a shirt):

Replying to @bakedpotayter I really didnt think anything of this tbh

“I really didn’t think anything of [the outfit],” Arena said.

The Disney Park guest’s posts amassed hundreds of comments, many of which chastised her for violating Walt Disney World Resort’s dress code. The official rules state, “Proper attire, including shoes and shirts, must be worn at all times.”

“It’s a sports bra. At a family friendly amusement park,” @reallifechemist commented. “Wtf did you think was going to happen?”

“You forgot your shirt, ma’am,” said @katejulka. “I’m usually on the side of, ‘Eh, who cares. Let her wear what she wants.’ But clothes are a fair thing to require.”

“Why would someone have to TELL you this isn’t appropriate for a family friendly environment?” @lifesmessyenjoyit agreed. “How could you not come to the conclusion yourself that wearing only a bra as a top isn’t considered appropriate attire unless you’re in a gym or at your home? You knew you were just being attention seeking. Glad they enforced it.”

“There are no signs that I saw saying this, I assumed I was fine because no one said anything to me,” Arena argued. She later posted a video defending her outfit.

“There were many people at Disney wearing much less clothing than I was,” Arena said. “I had nothing showing other than my stomach and my arms, but you guys are acting like I went out naked. Anyone who goes to the gym knows it’s totally fine to walk around with a sports bra and leggings on. I just went to Disney, how I would go to the gym.”

“I didn’t know that Disney has a dress code,” she added. “That’s a whole different story. If I knew that, I would’ve thrown a t-shirt on top of it. But I didn’t know.”

Although Arena’s videos drew significant backlash, some commenters defended her outfit.

“It’s Florida, this outfit is beyond appropriate,” @rainbowsprimkle argued. “I’ve been in shorts, I’ve been in a crop top, and no one ever said a thing. feels like they targeted you.”

“This is tame compared to most Disney outfits,” @sybillamae agreed. “I can’t believe you got dress coded. Disney is all tiny crop tops, mini skirts, short shorts, etc.”

Later, Arena posted a screenshot showing that sports bras aren’t banned at Walt Disney World Resort:

While it’s true that the Disney dress code doesn’t ban sports bras, it does require guests to wear shirts. Some cast members may not interpret a sports bra as a shirt, so guests should wear or pack an extra layer just in case.

Was this guest’s outfit appropriate for Walt Disney World Resort? Inside the Magic would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
