It’s finally here. After years of angst, controversies, reshoots, and downright stupidity, the world will finally get to see Disney’s live-action Snow White (2025).

However, before audiences could enter the theaters, there was one more silly controversy surrounding the movie, but this time, it was out of the film’s stars/director/producers’ hands.
Earlier this week, it was announced that The British Board of Film Classification would be slapping Snow White with a trigger warning prior to the film. The warning reads:
A couple gently kiss and are teased about being in love, a character threatens to shove something up another’s backside during a comic exchange and skeletal remains lie on the floor of a dungeon.

Viewers are also alerted that characters briefly drink alcohol, a man is shot in the chest with an arrow, a woman is poisoned, and there is a brief sword fight in the film.
The British Board of Film Classification frequently adds these types of “trigger” warnings to films, including one added to Wicked (2024) that warned viewers of “green woman.” Writer Simon Evans told the Daily Mail:
Trigger warnings are ridiculous and counterproductive at the best of times, dampening excitement, destroying creative, dramatic tension and creating a muffled atmosphere appropriate to an HR seminar than a movie.
This decision adds another layer of controversy to a film that was already mired in it.

Snow White Controversies
When it was announced that Zegler, who is half Colombian, would take on the role of Snow White, there was an immediate backlash. Some labeled Disney “woke” for changing the main character to be more inclusive. The “woke” label stayed with Disney after it was revealed that Disney had replaced the seven dwarfs with seven “magical creatures.”
Disney delayed the release of Snow White from 2024 to 2025 to reshoot scenes and bring back the dwarfs. As a result, the film’s spending ballooned to over $270 million, not including publicity spending.

After getting the role, Zegler did not help to tamp down the “woke” controversies. She criticized the original film, calling it “weird” and Prince Charming a “stalker.”
More recently, she said that she hopes Donald Trump and his supporters “never know peace,” which they took as a threat. Zegler has since apologized for those remarks.

Disney also scaled back the film’s premieres in London and Los Angeles to address some controversies. However, based on early reviews, Disney appears to have a solid movie in its hands.
Snow White opens tomorrow nationwide.
