Disney World has a strange habit of reopening its refurbished attractions without telling anyone. Guests show up at the parks, and poof, the attraction is magically open. It’s a surprise, but a welcome one for Disney fans.

Disney reopened the Hall of Presidents and Astro Orbiter two weeks ago at Magic Kingdom without much fanfare. The same can’t be said for Test Track 3.0 at EPCOT.
Fans have known that Test Track will reopen for weeks. Disney has already started cast member previews, and Annual Pass Holder previews start this weekend, so guests have seen the leaked video of the ride.
However, on Friday night, without warning, Disney opened the newly renovated attraction for a “soft preview,” allowing guests at EPCOT to walk on the ride. According to Disney reporter Ashley Carter, she walked on Test Track with other park guests on Friday night.

This “soft opening” allows Disney to work on technical or crowding issues before the attraction opens to the public in 10 days.
The new Test Track explores the future of transportation technology and how those improvements will change our driving experiences. The updated Test Track gives a slight tip of the cap to the World of Motion, which explored transportation’s past, present, and future.
The World of Motion was an opening-day attraction at EPCOT that closed in 1996. In 1999, Test Track replaced it. The updated Test Track even includes the theme music from the World of Motion to help complete the nod to its predecessor.
Among the new items is a completely revised queue. Disney removed the design-your-own car feature from the queue and replaced it with a showroom featuring cars of the future.
Test Track closed last June and will open to the general public on July 22. While the updated version of the ride is similar to its predecessor, guests will enjoy some new features and experiences. And the older people in your party will enjoy the nod to the World of Motion.

It is unclear if the “soft opening” will continue throughout the weekend or if this was just a one-off. Disney did not make any announcements regarding the opening, and with Annual Passholder previews starting on Sunday, it doesn’t seem likely that park guests will get another opportunity like this.
However, if you happen to be at EPCOT, swing by Test Track, and you may get the opportunity to ride the park’s latest attraction.
