There probably isn’t a person alive who doesn’t love Toy Story (1995). While the idea of a fifth film–which is heading to theaters in 2026–feels a bit unnecessary, nothing will change how we feel about the likes of Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen).
One of the biggest problems with some of the Toy Story sequels is that the more films Disney and Pixar make, the more questions we’re left with. The first three films focus on the challenges the toys face as their owner Andy grows up. But Toy Story 4 (2019), which introduces the character Forky (Tony Hale), left us asking questions about the existential nature of a living toy, which is completely absurd and pointless.

For starters, Forky isn’t even a “real” toy — he was made by Bonnie (Emily Hahn) at kindergarten using a plastic fork and some craft-wire. So does this mean that anything can become a toy? And what exactly qualifies as a “toy” in the Toy Story world?
While we’re on the subject, let’s go even further back — why does Buzz, who thinks he’s a real space ranger, freeze whenever Andy (John Morris) enters the room in the original 1995 film? Questions like this are enough to give us a headache, but the fact that we don’t need any answers proves that the questions themselves are equally irrelevant.
With that said, we would like to see a child finding out that Woody and his pals are alive, but only because it would be pretty cool.

Okay, so we did see this in Toy Story (1995), when Woody decides to break the toys’ “one rule” by revealing that they’re alive in front of the toy-torturing kid neighbor, Sid (Erik von Detten), in a bid to free themselves from his captivity and make it back home to Andy. But what if there was a scene where Andy himself finds out that his favorite toy, Woody, is alive?
Well, you might be surprised to know that there is some footage that depicts that scenario. The short video from Mark Cannataro Films on YouTube sees a young Andy wandering into his bedroom only to catch Woody moving around! Realizing he’s been busted, Woody turns to face Andy, and his human owner actually faints from the shock of the discovery.
But while it might seem like a “deleted scene” straight out of the original Toy Story, the video is fan-made. Check it out below:

It would be pretty fun to see this realized in the next Toy Story 5, but, on the other hand, it could, for many children, destroy the illusion that toys may be alive here in the real world.
“The toys are back in Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5, and this time around it’s Toy meets Tech. Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs get exponentially harder when they go head to head with this all-new threat to playtime,” Disney’s official synopsis for the film reads. “Directed by Andrew Stanton, co-directed by McKenna Harris and produced by Jessica Choi, Toy Story 5 opens only in theaters on June 19, 2026.”
