It’s been just over a month since Muppet Vision 3D closed its doors to guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The 34-year-old attraction received a fitting send-off, with guests lining up for hours for one final show, and Jim Henson’s daughter as the final guest to enter the attraction.

Since then, Muppet Courtyard has started the demolition process to make way for Hollywood Studios’ new Monsters, Inc. Land. The loss of the beloved attraction, and the only area in Disney Parks dedicated to the Jim Henson creations, left a void that may be impossible to fill.

However, Disney did throw Muppet fans a bone with the announcement that they would be moving across the park to take over the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster from Aerosmith, but even that wasn’t enough. But Jim Henson’s son, Brian Henson, gave Muppet fans a sign that the beloved attraction could return.

Brian Henson said in an interview:

They wrapped it up in the way Disney does, where everything is recorded for historical purposes and all the animatronics are packed away perfectly. So, theoretically, they could bring it back out if they wanted to at some point. From the get-go, they designed it so that 500 people could go through every 25 minutes. It was one the most highly experienced attractions, I think, that Disney ever made. And I was very sad to see it getting wrapped up.

So, the few animatronics used in the production sit somewhere on Disney property. The animatronics include Statler and Waldorf heckling from a balcony, the Swedish Chef operating the projector, and a penguin orchestra. There is also Sweetums.

It is unclear what Disney plans on doing with them, but they are still available if/when Disney decides to bring the attraction back to life.

Henson was also asked about the Muppet’s move across the park and any updates he could offer on the new attraction. Playing coy, Henson responded that he “couldn’t say,” and he was unsure just how much Disney wanted the world to know. Clearly, he knew something, but couldn’t say.

Despite that lack of information, Henson told Muppet fans more than enough to raise their hopes for a possible return. Given that August will be a big month of announcements for Disney, it could happen sooner rather than later.
