In 1991, The Muppets made their mark on Walt Disney World Resort with the opening of Muppet*Vision 3D in Disney’s Hollywood Studios (then called MGM Studios). The show brought guests into Muppet Labs, where they would see some of their favorite characters hard at work on perfecting the art of 3D entertainment.
Over the years, Muppet*Vision has not been the most popular attraction in the theme park, but it does have a dedicated fan base and a cult like following. That’s why Disney was met with so much backlash when it announced that the attraction would be permanently closing.

At Disney’s D23 Expo held in August 2024, Disney announced that the area that is home to Muppet*Vision 3D, PizzeRizzo, the closed Muppets store, and Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano would be closing and making way for a new area themed after the 2001 Pixar film, Monsters, Inc.
The new area will feature a suspended roller coaster that takes guests through the factory where Mike and Sulley work, and into the vault full of children’s doors that the monsters use.
We do not know what other attractions, as well as shopping and dining locations, will be revealed as the new land inches closer to opening.

Muppet*Vision 3D will officially close on June 8, so guests only have a few weeks left to experience the beloved attraction. However, guests who visit the attraction on June 7 will not be the last ones to enjoy the lights, the music, the crotchety old men on the balcony, and the cute 3D effects.
According to multiple sources, Disney will be putting on an exclusive party for cast members. After Hollywood Studios closes for the evening, cast members will be able to enjoy Muppet*Vision, play games, and dine on food from PizzeRizzo, which is closing the same day as Muppet*Vision.
NEW: Cast Members at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will have the opportunity to attend an exclusive celebration on June 10 in the Grand Avenue area. As part of the event, Cast Members will be the last people to experience Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo before construction starts.

While Muppet*Vision 3D might be closing forever, that does not mean that The Muppets are completely leaving Walt Disney World. Three months after announcing the destruction of Muppets Courtyard, Disney revealed that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith would be getting a retheme. The famous Muppet band Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem will take over the attraction.
According to Disney, Dr. Teeth will be teaming up with some famous bands for a “rockin’ music festival”. We do not know when work on the retheme will begin or when it will open.
While PizzeRizo and Muppet*Vision do not close until June 7, Mama Melrose’s closed permanently on May 10.
