Wicked fans beware; the iconic movie will be leaving your screen soon.

Universal Pictures’ long-awaited Wicked took flight with dazzling results, enchanting audiences and critics alike. Directed by In the Heights filmmaker Jon M. Chu, the film stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and pop superstar Ariana Grande as Glinda. It charts their early friendship in Oz before destiny splits them apart.
Backed by a powerhouse cast including Jonathan Bailey (Fiyero), Jeff Goldblum (The Wizard), Michelle Yeoh (Madam Morrible), and Ethan Slater (Boq), the musical adaptation weaves together beloved songs by Stephen Schwartz and a sweeping score by John Powell. With visual spectacle, soaring vocals, and a heart-tugging story, Wicked brought Broadway’s magic to the big screen boldly and immersively.

The film soared past expectations at the box office, racking up over $700 million globally, making it the highest-grossing musical adaptation of all time. Domestically, it earned $460.6 million, with an additional $240.4 million from international markets.
Audiences embraced it, earning the film a rare “A” CinemaScore and a 97% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics were equally spellbound, granting it a 90% approval rating and praising its ambition, performances, and scale. Awards attention soon followed, with Wicked claiming a Golden Globe for Box Office Achievement and a Best Film nod from the National Board of Review, setting the stage for its eagerly awaited sequel.

Wicked Will Soon Leave Screens–But There’s Still Hope
On March 21, 2025, Wicked hit the Peacock streaming service with a bang, becoming the streamer’s most-watched Pay 1 movie on record. But Peacock subscribers will soon lose the chance to watch the beloved Broadway musical adaptation.
As The Direct identified: “Peacock has confirmed that Wicked is set to leave its streaming library on July 20, with both the standard and sing-along versions now appearing on the platform’s “Leaving Soon” page.”

Wicked: For Good, Just Months Away
On November 21, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande will return as their respective witches in the sequel to the 2024 movie Wicked: For Good (formerly Wicked: Part Two). The film will follow the story of the friends as they navigate the paths they have chosen.
For years, fans have been desperate to hear Erivo’s take on the Act Two anthem “No Good Deed. ” In For Good, it will finally be shown. With the trailer now out, the marketing campaign for the sequel has officially commenced, and if it is anything like last year’s viral social media movement, For Good will likely perform just as well, if not better, than its predecessor.
