Disneyland’s Ray’s Berets shop in Bayou Country has received a fresh sod roof, following the previous installation that failed to thrive under the spring sun. The new grass covering aims to restore the shop’s natural aesthetic, aligning with its theme inspired by Ray the firefly from The Princess and the Frog.

A Second Attempt at a Lush Roof
The initial sod installation on Ray’s Berets’ roof was met with challenges as the grass struggled to survive in the warm weather. Guests reported seeing the sod deteriorate within a week, prompting Disneyland to replace it with a new batch. The fresh sod was added in late June 2025, with photos shared by visitors showing the shop’s roof once again covered in vibrant green grass.
The grass roof is a significant design element for Ray’s Berets, contributing to the shop’s immersive theming. The roof’s appearance plays a crucial role in the overall guest experience, as it enhances the natural, bayou-inspired atmosphere of the area. Maintaining the health of the sod is essential to preserve the aesthetic appeal of the shop and the surrounding environment.

Challenges in Maintaining the Roof
Maintaining a living grass roof in a theme park setting presents unique challenges. Factors such as weather conditions, irrigation, and sunlight exposure can impact the sod’s health. The previous sod’s rapid decline highlighted the difficulties in sustaining such a feature, leading to the recent replacement.

The park’s commitment to maintaining this feature reflects its dedication to creating immersive and authentic experiences for guests. Visitors to Disneyland can look forward to seeing the shop’s roof in its renewed state, contributing to the enchanting ambiance of Bayou Country.
