Universal Studios Japan has confirmed the latest in a string of permanent closures, effective from November.
Universal’s most successful international theme park has evolved far beyond its 2001 launch. Once centered on classic movie-based attractions, the park now blends blockbuster IP with bold, immersive design aimed at a global audience.

SUPER NINTENDO WORLD has driven much of that momentum. The land features Mario Kart and Yoshi-themed rides, interactive gameplay, and colorful worldbuilding. In 2024, it expanded with Donkey Kong Country, adding Mine-Cart Madness and lush jungle theming that pushed the theme park further into next-gen territory.
Even more changes are on the horizon, with the confirmation that Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast – currently only found at Universal Studios Florida – will be joining the park’s attraction lineup this year.
It seems like Universal has even more developments planned for the park as it just confirmed the closure of another long-time fixture.
Universal Announces A New Permanent Closure
Universal Studios Japan is set to axe Finnegan’s Bar & Grill in November.

The restaurant – another transplant from Universal Orlando Resort – is themed like an Irish pub in Brooklyn. Located in the New York area of the park, its menu includes Western fare such as steak, beef stew, and salad.
On November 3, however, guests have to say a permanent farewell as Universal is closing Finnegan’s Bar & Grill down for good.
This is the latest in a string of big closures to hit the New York area of Universal Studios Japan, which is also home to the eateries Louie’s N.Y. Pizza Parlor, Park Side Grille, and SAIDO. The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man permanently closed in January 2024 after Universal Studios Japan’s licensing deal that made the attraction possible expired.

Back in 2020, Universal also permanently axed T2-3D: Battle Across Time. It has since been replaced by Detective Conan 4-D Live Show: Jewel Under the Starry Sky.
There have been plenty of rumors about what’s heading to Universal Studios Japan’s New York area. Some believe Pokémon will make its Universal attraction debut in the land, especially since Universal is yet to fully take advantage of its long-term partnership with The Pokémon Company beyond character appearances.
