Few franchises have maintained the cultural footprint of Jurassic Park. Since Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film brought Michael Crichton’s best-selling novel to life, the series has expanded across sequels, spinoffs, novels, theme park rides, and video games.

With Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) set to hit theaters in July and introduce mutant dinosaurs like the Distortus Rex, the franchise is evolving once again.

But while Rebirth takes things in a bold new direction, another project is set to take players back to where it all began: 1993. The upcoming first-person action-adventure game “Jurassic Park: Survival” (TBA) is poised to immerse players in a “fully realized Isla Nublar.”

Set just 24 hours after the original film, the story follows Dr. Maya Joshi, a scientist stranded on the island in the immediate aftermath of the dinosaur breakout.

Isla Nublar, the central setting of the original Jurassic Park (1993), has appeared in everything from park brochures and in-film visuals seen on computer screens to fan-made renderings that attempt to piece together a definitive geography.

But while the 1993 movie version is arguably the most recognized, the fictitious remote Costa Rican island’s layout was first described in detail in Michael Crichton’s original 1990 novel—which laid the groundwork for the jungle-covered terrain, visitor facilities, and high-security enclosures we now associate with the franchise.

These early blueprints are likely to heavily influence the game’s yet-to-be-revealed map. Universal Products & Experiences and Saber Interactive have already confirmed that the game’s Isla Nublar will feature both iconic and brand-new locations for players to explore.

The game’s website promises a “fully realized Isla Nublar”, while screenshots shared with IGN last year showcase several locations while hinting at an underground tunnel system.

More familiar sights appear in the game’s initial cinematic trailer, which showcases the Visitor Center, the towering park gates, and the T-Rex Paddock. These areas are being faithfully reconstructed to match their 1993 counterparts, offering fans a nostalgic return to locations they know by heart—this time through the intimate, first-person lens of a survivor.

Fan-made maps have often worked to reconcile the differences between the book, film, and various game versions of Isla Nublar. Many of these projects highlight the inconsistencies in scale and placement from one version to another, and now, Universal and Saber Interactive may be using that groundwork to inform a layout that’s both believable and fully explorable.
