It’s been just over a week since Muppet Vision 3D closed its doors to guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The 34-year-old attraction received a fitting send-off, with guests lining up for hours for one final show and Jim Henson’s daughter as the final guest to enter the attraction.

Inside the theater, guests sang along and gave the final show a standing ovation as they exited. Cast members waited as they deposited their glasses in the bins for one last time, and that was the end of Muppet Vision 3D.
Muppets fans knew this weekend was coming since last August when Disney announced that a new Monsters, Inc. land would be coming to Hollywood Studios. At first, fans thought the Muppets would be saved, but a few days later, Disney announced that Monsters, Inc would be built on the land formerly owned by the beloved Muppets.

Since the announcement, Disney fans have desperately tried to save the attraction, but much like their efforts to save Rivers of America, their petitions and letters to Disney fell on deaf ears.
However, it appears that Muppet fans may actually get another shot at experimenting with Muppet Vision 3D. Yesterday, during a Walt Disney Family Museum event celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Jim Henson Company, current CEO Lisa Henson told the audience that she’s in discussion with Disney about possibly bringing Muppet Vision 3D back, sort of.

According to Henson, she is working with Disney to create a Muppet Vision 3D virtual reality show that guests can watch from their homes. Henson said that before closing, the show was filmed using a VR camera and could be available “in the near future” on devices like Apple Vision Pro.
While that’s good news for those who already own a virtual reality headset, for those that don’t, this doesn’t change the fact that Muppet Vision could be gone forever.

Disney did not waste any time closing off Muppet Courtyard, as walls went up around the area the next time, and it was removed from the Hollywood Studios map. The ride remained open until June 10, when cast members were the final people to see Muppet Vision 3D.
So, while the attraction is gone forever, it can still live on in virtual reality. It’s only until 2026 that the Muppets will take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, so fans have that to look forward to.
