Jamie Lee Curtis has enjoyed a total of seven appearances throughout the long-running Halloween franchise. The original “Final Girl” made her breakthrough in John Carpenter’s original 1978 classic before returning for the direct sequel, Halloween II, in 1981.

After a 20-year break from the series, which continued to churn out sequels in her absence, Curtis made her long-awaited return in Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998) for a supposedly “final showdown” with her evil brother, Michael Myers (Chris Durand).

However, despite finally defeating the bogeyman, the 2003 sequel Halloween: Resurrection shocked fans by retconning Michael’s H20 death and killing off Laurie Strode (Curtis) in the process. As such, Jamie Lee Curtis had ended her Halloween journey.

That was until David Gordon Green’s Halloween (2018). Hardly the first in the series to do so, the reboot wiped out a bunch of sequels and brought Jamie Lee Curtis’ Laurie Strode back to life for a new trilogy in which she must face Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney) all over again. The film was followed by two sequels, Halloween Kills (2021) and Halloween Ends (2022), with the latter marking Curtis’ final-ever appearance as Laurie Strode.

Since Ends, Curtis, 65, has gone on record numerous times to say she’s done with the Halloween franchise. But now, the Freaky Friday star has fueled fans’ expectations that she’ll never stop playing the iconic Final Girl. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly (EW), Curtis cryptically teased that she may return to Haddonfield to face off against the bogeyman once again despite earlier promises that she’s done with Laurie Strode.

After discussing her upcoming project—Zeberiah Newman’s upcoming documentary about ’90s fitness icon Susan Powter on which Curtis is producer—the actress reflected on her history with the Halloween franchise, which launched her successful film career in 1978.

“I have hung up my bell-bottoms and my pale blue button-down shirt, and I have relinquished [Laurie Strode] to the ages with a warm, ‘aloha,’ and a thanks for all the years and memories,” Curtis told EW when asked if she was done with the beloved slasher series.

Halloween Ends, which grossed $105.4 million worldwide (against its $33 million budget) but was met with mixed to negative reviews from audiences and critics, didn’t just mark the end of Curtis’ time as Laurie Strode—it was also the conclusion to David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy. With it being the first film in the franchise to kill Michael Myers on screen, it firmly ended the newer timeline, paving the way for yet another reboot, which this time will arrive in the form of a television series that’s currently in development with Trancas and Miramax.

“And yet,” Curtis continued, “if I’ve learned anything in my 65 years on the planet, it’s never say never. Goodbye.” According to the article from Entertainment Weekly, the actress then promptly ended the call “without another word.”

On X (formerly Twitter), fans are having their say.

Jamie Lee Curtis fan @RajTheShowMan_2 says that “we don’t need to be put through a film” like Halloween Ends again and begs for the franchise to end:

I love Jamie Lee Curtis. But after Halloween Ends i don’t think this will ever be necessary again. I’m begging y’all to just let it end where it is. We don’t need to be put through a film like that ever again as fans.

Another fan jokes about Curtis’ possible return, saying:

H60, here we come! LOL

@tagrubb29 wants new stories with Michael Myers and says that Laurie Strode got her happy ending in Halloween Ends:

I want new stories with Michael Myers without Laurie Strode I am tried of the Laurie Strode character she got her happy ending in Halloween ends

Whether or not Jamie Lee Curtis is simply referring to the fact that she’s already returned to the franchise numerous times in the past, or to a specific project, such as the Halloween television series that we know nothing about or the Halloween video game that John Carpenter is “intimately involved with” remains to be seen. But one thing’s for sure—just like Michael Myers himself, it’s hard to believe that we’ll never see Curtis’ Laurie Strode again—whichever one of the many versions that might be.
