The next James Bond actor has been revealed, along with the rest of the new 007 team.
A 007 reboot separate from the new film from Denis Villeneuve (Dune: Part Two) and writer Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) has unveiled its lineup, which includes iconic characters such as M, Q, and, of course, Bond himself, along with the actor who plays him.
“007 First Light” is a third-person action-adventure video game and the next entry in the James Bond franchise. It follows the titular MI6 secret agent in an all-new origin story separate from the untitled theatrical reboot that’s being produced under Amazon MGM.
Watch the official trailer for “007 First Light” below:
The trailer, which premiered two months ago, offers a first look at some of the most iconic characters from the long-running franchise.
So far, we know the identities of two of the actors, though there’s speculation about who’s providing the motion capture performance and voice work for some of the others.
M

M is the Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service for MI6. Most recently, she was played by Dame Judi Dench in both the Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig-led Bond eras, from GoldenEye (1995) through No Time to Die (2021).
However, the character has also been played by John Bernard Lee and Robert Brown, and by Ralph Fiennes in the last three Daniel Craig films. Similar to “007”, “M” is a designation and not a person per se, which explains why the character and their appearance has changed yet again in “007 First Light”.
The character has always been portrayed by White actors in the films, which makes M’s casting in “First Light” refreshingly diverse. Although not all fans are happy as some have voiced their disdain on X (Twitter) about the choice to cast a person of color in the role.

Miss Moneypenny

Miss Moneypenny also appears in the trailer, sporting a similar look to the version played by Naomie Harris in the Daniel Craig Bond films, Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015), and No Time to Die.
Traditionally, the character has served as a secretary at MI6, but throughout the Craig films, evolved to become a more integral part of the 007 team. There’s currently no information or even speculation about who’s playing Moneypenny in “007 First Light”.
In addition to Harris, Moneypenny has been played by Lois Maxwell, Caroline Bliss, and Samantha Bond in film.
Q

Unsurprisingly, we also see Q (short for Quartermaster), the man responsible for creating James Bond’s nifty gadgets, from his laser pen to his tire-gun-toting Aston Martin.
Again, there’s no actor associated with the game’s version of Q yet. In film, the actor has been played by actors such as John Cleese and Ben Whishaw.

Greenway

This time, Bond has a mentor in the form of John Greenway, played by The Walking Dead‘s Lennie James. It looks like Greenway has a leading role in the game and won’t just be offering advice remotely, as he appears in a scene where he and the young 007 dangle upside down above a pit of crocodiles.
James Bond/007

After months of speculation that the actor playing the young James Bond in “007 First Light” is Irish actor Patrick Gibson, it has been revealed by actor Lennie James that it is indeed the Dexter: Original Sin (2024) star.
In film, Bond has been played by Sean Connery (Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever, Never Say Never Again), George Lazenby (On Her Majesty’s Secret Service), Roger Moore (Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, A View to a Kill), Timothy Dalton (The Living Daylights, License to Kill), Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, Die Another Day), and Daniel Craig (Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, Spectre, No Time to Die).

The “Bond Girl”

It isn’t a 007 installment without a “Bond girl”. While we don’t know who’s playing Isola in “First Light,” fans believe it’s French/Japanese actor Noémie Nakai due to the likeness.
The trailer hints at a deeper romantic connection between 007 and Isola, similar to his relationship with past Bond girls such as Casino Royale‘s Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) and Spectre/No Time to Die‘s Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux).
The New Bond Villain

The trailer for “First Light” mentions Agent 009, who will be the villain of the piece. While we don’t get a look at them, they are described as a “master manipulator.” This instantly reminds us of other fellow 00 agents turned rogue, such as GoldenEye‘s 006 Alec Trevelyan (Sean Bean) and Skyfall‘s Raoul Silva (Javier Bardem).
“007 First Light” will be released on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows sometime in 2026.
There’s no release date for the new James Bond film.
