In 1993, a Japanese show called Super Sentai was transformed into an American television series that was an absolute hit with younger audiences. That show was called Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, and it remains one of the most loved shows of the 1990s by a lot of millennials. It didn’t matter who you thought the best Power Ranger was; what mattered was that we were seemingly normal teenagers with really cool abilities.
The original Power Rangers series ran for three seasons, but then there were a number of seasons with different names. Since 1993, there have been a total of thirty seasons featuring the teenage superheroes, with the most recent season, called Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, airing in September 2023.

In addition to the successful television shows, there have also been several Power Rangers movies that have been made over the years. The first film — Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie — premiered in 1995. That was followed by Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie two years later, with both films being produced by 20th Century Fox.
In 2017, Lionsgate teamed with Saban Film in an attempt to reboot the franchise. Instead of the fun series that audiences were used to, the film turned into a gritty young adult drama. The film had a budget of around $100 million, but only made $182 million, which dashed any hopes of a successful reboot with more films.
Then, in 2023, the Power Rangers made their way to Netflix with Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Once & Always.

Despite its popularity, the Power Rangers never seemed to find a steady home. The series and films were released by a number of studios, including Fox Kids, ABC Kids, Nickelodeon, and Netflix.
And now, it looks like the superhero franchise has made its way back to the Mouse House.
According to an exclusive report from TheWrap, Disney is currently working on a new Power Rangers series for Disney+. The show is reportedly being helmed by Percy Jackson and the Olympians showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz.
