Hundreds of Walt Disney World Resort guests evacuated the Disney Skyliner this weekend after a fire alarm shut down the transportation network. A concerned Disney Park guest shared their experience evacuating the 60-foot-tall gondola system on social media.
Disney Skyliner gondolas transport Walt Disney World Resort guests between Disney’s Hollywood Studios, EPCOT International Gateway, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Riviera Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, and Disney’s Pop Century Resort. Guests staying at the Value Disney Skyliner Resort hotels must transfer at Caribbean Beach for travel to the Disney parks, while guests at Disney’s Riviera Resort only transfer for travel to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Redditor u/thatonehispanicgirl was traveling on the Disney Skyliner this weekend when a fire alarm suddenly blared. Guests were forced to evacuate the gondolas and wait for assistance at the Caribbean Beach Resort station.
“We just got escorted off and are standing at Caribbean Beach,” the Disney Park guest wrote. “We know it’s a fire alarm, but wondered if it was a false alarm or something more serious.”
Another Redditor, u/jcwilsonmd, was at Disney’s Hollywood Studios when the incident occurred: “We were about to get on at Hollywood studios and were told nope. There was an issue or incident at another location. There was a little tension with the safety guy telling everyone to hurry up.”
Later, the same Disney Park guest added that the Disney Skyliner was “no longer moving at all,” and Disney cast members weren’t providing any information about the closure. “Everyone is tight lipped,” they wrote.
Walt Disney World Resort rarely publicizes its reasons for evacuating or suddenly closing its attractions and transportation systems. It also does not publicly disclose the operational status of the Disney Skyliner outside of its stations and at Disney Resort hotels.
