It’s been nearly 15 years since we last saw Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint on the big screen as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. In 1997, J.K. Rowling changed the world when she released her first book in the boy wizard series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (Philosopher’s Stone in the UK).
Radcliffe, Watson, and Grint would take those roles and define them, starring in eight films that grossed nearly $8 billion. It’s hard to think of the beloved characters without thinking of the wonderful actors who played them.

In 2021, fans were shocked to learn that Warner Bros. had teamed up with HBO to create a brand-new Harry Potter series. But this series would not be a continuation of the films. Instead, it would start over from the very beginning and dive deeper into the books than the movies ever were able to. The series will turn each book into a season, and according to HBO, it will run for an incredible ten years!
More than 32,000 children auditioned for the lead roles, and in May 2025, the talented young actors who got the roles were finally announced to the public. Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, Alastair Stout will play Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton will play Hermione Granger.
Filming on the series is in full swing, and we now have a first look at Dominic McLaughlin as The Boy Who Lived!

It has also been reported that Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby have been cast as Petunia and Vernon Dursley, respectively.
You may have noticed that we did not list who will be playing Lord Voldemort (AKA Tom Riddle), and that is because his casting has not been announced yet. Of course, there are rumors about who will play the Dark Lord, and one of the frontrunners could be Marvel star Tom Hiddleston.
Filming of season one of Harry Potter will reportedly last until the spring of 2026. However, the actors will only have a short break before filming for season 2 begins. With such young actors, it is important that there aren’t huge breaks in between filming each season, or they will begin to look too old to play young students at Hogwarts.
Inside the Magic will keep readers updated as more information is released on the new series.
