For decades, Disney-loving couples have dreamed about getting married at some of the most magical locations on earth. Disney always takes things to the next level, and cast members know how to create such memorable experiences, so why not incorporate some of that Disney magic into a wedding? Disney thought that was a great idea, and in 1991, both Disneyland and Walt Disney World began offering weddings. In just one year, hundreds of guests had gotten married in one of their favorite vacation destinations.

In 1995, the breathtaking Wedding Pavilion opened at Walt Disney World’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, offering guests a memorable spot to get married, complete with unforgettable sight lines of the Magic Kingdom.
The Wedding Pavilion is nestled on the shores of Seven Seas Lagoon, and with its Victorian spires, vaulted ceilings, and arched windows, it has been one of the most popular locations for Disney fans to tie the knot.
Unfortunately, Walt Disney World Resort has undergone many changes over the past few years, and some fans think that this has negatively affected what was once a fabulous area.

X (formerly Twitter) user Savethemagic shared a picture of the wedding pavilion, showing that what was once an open area is now dominated by the new DVC tower that is being built at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. The gorgeous waterfront also appears to be overgrown, looking as though it’s not being taken care of like it should.
The average cost of a Disney’s Wedding Pavilion ceremony reportedly is from $18,000 to $35,000 – and for that, you have a massive modern DVC tower ominously hanging over your Victorian pavilion, which overlooks a water feature that is almost completely overgrown.

Commenters overwhelmingly agreed with the post, finding the Wedding Pavilion’s decline disappointing, especially considering the cost of a Disney World wedding. According to the Disney weddings website, venues at Disney World start at $15,000 and go all the way up to $100,000 (to get married inside the Magic Kingdom), and then the costs of things like flowers, food, photographers, and entertainment need to be factored in.
So, while guests can get married at Disney World for a relatively reasonable price, it is still more expensive than many places.
I can’t believe that price! Must be nice to be able to afford such a wedding at those prices. But your other points are not lost on me; that high rise in back of the pavilion is a real eyesore and the state of the waters in WDW is very neglectful.

It is important to note that those getting married at the Wedding Pavilion will still be able to look out onto the Magic Kingdom, as those sight lines have not been altered by the building of the new Disney Vacation Club Tower at the Polynesian. However, according to one commenter, the DVC tower is practically on top of the Wedding Pavilion, so couples might not get the quiet privacy they were hoping for.
For years, Disney was incredibly focused on the guest experience, but in recent years, they have been accused of profits over people.
I stayed in that modern tower last week. The zoom lens on shot makes it look too far away… that tower is literally right on top of the pavilion. I could have stood on my balcony and wished the happy couple congratulations while in my bathing suit drinking a beer.

While a lot has changed at Walt Disney World, there are still so many incredible locations to get married, even INSIDE the theme parks! Guests looking to exchange vows can choose from locations like the Italy Pavilion in EPCOT, outside Tower of Terror in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, in front of the Tree of Life in Animal Kingdom, or even right in front of Cinderella Castle!
No matter what kind of Disney wedding you choose, it is certain to be an experience that you and your guests will be talking about for years to come!
Do you think the Grand Floridian’s Wedding Pavilion is not as much of an incredible location as it once was? Do you think Disney is neglecting spots like that while charging a premium price?
