It may feel early to start planning for New Year’s Eve, but one Disney resort has made it very clear that you shouldn’t factor its festivities into your plans.
Disney doesn’t take holidays lightly. Whether it’s Halloween, Christmas, or the Fourth of July, the company goes all out with themed parades, limited-time food, special entertainment, and dazzling nighttime shows that transform its parks into festive playgrounds for guests of all ages.

New Year’s Eve is no exception. Across its resorts, Disney typically rings in the new year with extended hours, exclusive countdown celebrations, and some of its most elaborate fireworks displays of the year. The night often includes DJ dance parties, themed merchandise, and special menus designed to help guests celebrate in true Disney style.
At Walt Disney World, Magic Kingdom and EPCOT are especially popular NYE destinations, often reaching capacity due to their massive fireworks and entertainment offerings. Over in California, Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure both host countdown celebrations and festive overlays. Disneyland Paris also marks the occasion with seasonal décor, a midnight fireworks spectacular, and a vibrant party atmosphere.
But if you were hoping to celebrate the occasion at Tokyo Disney Resort this year, we have some bad news.

Tokyo Disney Resort Skips New Year’s Eve 2025
Tokyo Disney Resort recently updated its list of upcoming theme park events to note that it won’t mark New Year’s Eve in 2025.
“‘New Year’s Eve’ at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea (on December 31, 2025) will not be presented,” it notes on its website.
Instead, the park plans to celebrate Halloween from September 17 to October 31, 2025. It will then transition to the Christmas period from November 11 to December 25, 2025. It will then host a New Year’s Special Event. However, this will skip New Year’s Eve itself and instead only begin on January 1, 2026, running through January 12.

This isn’t the first time Tokyo Disney Resort has skipped New Year’s Eve. In fact, it has now skipped the celebration for six years in a row.
However, that doesn’t mean the news has gone down particularly well with fans.
“I don’t get why they’re not doing it…” wrote one X, formerly known as Twitter, user. “Oriental Land is done for…”
Some are slightly more understanding about The Oriental Land Company’s (the company that operates Tokyo Disney Resort via a licensing agreement) decision to drop the event for good. As one X user wrote, “Why are Disney parks around the world restoring New Year’s Eve operations, but not only in Tokyo? Because it’s not cost-effective. Tokyo had been holding a crappy countdown since the earthquake compared to other Disney Parks, but finally stopped holding the event itself.”

Although Tokyo Disney Resort won’t offer an official New Year’s Eve countdown, guests can still enjoy its regular nighttime entertainment. That includes Sky Full of Colors—a modest fireworks display by Disney standards—and Reach for the Stars, a projection show at Cinderella Castle that features beloved characters chasing their dreams among the stars.
