The first trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) is set to arrive later today, but it probably won’t be anywhere near as spoilerific as yesterday’s exclusive deep-dive with Vanity Fair.
In an extensive look at the film, which comes after months of Universal Pictures drip-feeding what felt like the same images of the film’s actors wading through long grass over and over, director Gareth Edwards, producer Frank Marshall, and stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey, have shed a lot of light on the upcoming sequel.
In addition to a bunch of new images, which tease some of the film’s terrifying dinosaurs, from the iconic Tyrannosaurus Rex to the fan-favorite Spinosaurus, the article is an explosion of jaw-dropping information about the film, including the much-debated “sinister, shocking discovery” mentioned in the synopsis Universal Pictures shared last summer.

“Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs,” the synopsis reads.
“Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.”
Scarlett Johansson’s Zora Bennett is contracted to lead a team (which includes Jonathan Bailey’s Dr. Henry Loomis, Mahershala Ali’s Duncan Kincaid, and Rupert Friend’s Martin Krebs) on a mission to retrieve genetic material from the world’s three largest dinosaurs.
But things go awry when they encounter a shipwrecked civilian family (played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, David Iacono, Luna Blaise, and Audrina Miranda) on a mysterious island, where a “sinister, shocking discovery that’s been hidden from the world for decades” awaits.

Now, thanks to the Vanity Fair exclusive, we know a lot more about the plot, including what island they’re on and the nature of that big twist.
The island in question is home to InGen’s first Jurassic Park research lab, where some sinister prehistoric mutations now thrive. “These are the dinosaurs that didn’t work,” producer Frank Marshall reveals. “There’s some mutations in there. They’re all based on real dinosaur research, but they look a little different.”
Theories about mutant dinosaurs have been floating around on the Internet for a few weeks, with some concept art depicting a gargantuan creature that looks like something straight out of Cloverfield (2008). Well, it turns out those conspiracy theorists were mostly right.
“When you make a creature, you get a big, massive pot and you pour in your favorite monsters from other films and books,” director Gareth Edwards says of the creature that will, according to the article, show up in the first official trailer for the film later today.
“Some Rancor went in there, some H.R. Giger went in there, a little T. rex went in there,” the Godzilla (2014) and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) director reveals.
By H.R. Giger, Edwards is, of course, referring to the iconic Xenomorph from the Alien franchise. As for the Rancor and T-Rex part, it’s certainly in-line with some alleged concept art that’s been doing the rounds on X (formerly Twitter).
Sounds absolutely terrifying. But why do we have the feeling that red flares coupled with standing absolutely still won’t help this time around?
