Julian McMahon, star of the 20th Century Studios’ Fantastic Four movies, has sadly passed away at age 56.

Known for many performances across film and TV, one of Julian McMahon’s most commercial roles was his turn as the villainous Victor Von Doom, AKA Doctor Doom, in the early 2000s Fantastic Four movies. It was confirmed yesterday, July 4, that he had died.
“With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer,” Kelly McMahon, Julian McMahon’s wife, told Deadline. “Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible. We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories.”

Julian McMahon on screen
Julian McMahon has carved a versatile career on screen, best known for his captivating portrayals of complex and often enigmatic characters. He gained international recognition as the slick and morally ambiguous Dr. Christian Troy on the critically acclaimed FX drama Nip/Tuck.
McMahon also left a lasting impression as the demonic Cole Turner on Charmed, blending menace with vulnerability in a fan-favorite performance. His film work includes playing the villainous Victor Von Doom in Fantastic Four (2005) and its sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007), bringing comic book flair to the big screen. He returned to the Marvel Universe as Jonah/Magistrate in Runaways.

More recently, he starred as Jess LaCroix in CBS’s FBI: Most Wanted, leading the crime procedural with stoic resolve and emotional gravitas.
His legacy as Doctor Doom and as part of the Fantastic Four franchise will be carried forward this year when Kevin Feige’s Marvel Cinematic Universe welcomes the First Family in The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025). While it has not been confirmed that Doctor Doom will appear here, Robert Downey Jr.’s version of the classic comic book villain is rumored to appear in the post-credits scene ahead of his official debut in Avengers: Doomsday (2026).
Our thoughts are with Julian McMahon’s family at this time.
