A Walt Disney World Resort guest spoke out on social media last week after concurrent ride closures negatively impacted their visit to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. One-third of the park’s nine rides shut down on Friday, causing increased attraction wait times, dense crowds, and longer lines in other areas.

On May 16, Redditor u/rrsafety shared a screenshot of the My Disney Experience app showing that Slinky Dog Dash, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, and Toy Story Mania! had abruptly ceased operations at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

“Some rides are not ready for prime time,” the Disney Park guest wrote. “After a while, it’s ridiculous.”

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance uses complicated technology and automatic sensors, which are often triggered by guests dropping personal items into the ride path. The attraction is known for breaking down several times daily, but Friday’s shutdown was worsened by the unexplained closure of Toy Story Mania! and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

Many Disney Parks fans saw last week’s Disney’s Hollywood Studios meltdown as evidence of deteriorating standards at Walt Disney World Resort.

“There has to be a standard for a company that charges as much as Disney,” u/TheManicac1280 commented. “It’s not just an ‘awe well it happens’ situation on a destination that demands an amount that takes months or even years to save for.”

“It’s crazy that this still happens constantly, AND that people defend this,” u/novomyjogo replied.

Others shared similar experiences.

“This happened last week while I was there,” said u/yolowaccord. “HS has some great rides but not a lot of them really so when a few of the big ones are down it really messes up the park.”

“Last week at Hollywood, Rise, slinky dog and Mickeys runaway were all closed when for park opening,” u/rimmera69 wrote. “Slinky dog was down until the evening before starting up and eventually going down again. Lots of unhappy people that morning.”

Still, some Disney Parks fans defended Walt Disney World Resort, arguing that guest behavior and advanced technology make it impossible for attractions to function perfectly all the time.

“Toy Story mania isn’t ready for prime time after being open almost 20 years?” u/funkyneat asked. “Rides are big, complex systems that break. It’s just a thing that happens.”

“Somewhere, somehow, this idea that parks are infallible and nothing is ever down in the past has spread,” u/fathorse23 agreed. “… It’s definitely not true, anywhere.”
