Since its debut in 2019, Disney+ has become a go-to streaming platform for millions of users, primarily due to its collection of classic animated Disney stories. From The Little Mermaid (1989) to Beauty and the Beast (1991), practically all of Disney’s fairytales can be found on Disney+, though there’s a lot more to the service than just princesses.
Disney+ is also the home to everything Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar. Subscribers are just a few button presses away from streaming blockbusters like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), Avengers: Endgame (2019), and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).
Disney+ also helps breathe new life into recent films thanks to scheduled home premieres. Moana 2 (2024) blew up the charts when it dropped on the platform earlier this year. Disney’s live-action reimagining of Lilo & Stitch (2025) is bound to do the same.
However, a big, big update is on the horizon for Disney+, one that has significant implications for international users.

During a company earnings call this summer, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed Hulu would merge with Disney+. This news comes after Disney’s complete buyout of Hulu.
“We are building on Disney’s value proposition in streaming by combining Hulu into Disney+ to create a unified app experience featuring branded and general entertainment, news, and sports,” said Iger. “[This merger] will be a one-of-a-kind entertainment destination for subscribers.”
While this is big news for all Disney+ subscribers, it’s especially important for international users, as it means the end of Star.
Star is an international content hub within the Disney+ app, but only for those outside the U.S. Star has historically featured more adult-oriented content from networks such as FX and 20th Century Entertainment.
The Star page/channel will disappear later this fall. The content itself isn’t going anywhere; it will just fall under a new umbrella.
Alongside this major update, smaller changes will also be made. Once everything is said and done, new features and options will arrive on the platform at a later date.
“Work is already underway to continue enhancing our technology, and over the coming months, we will be implementing numerous improvements within the Disney+ app, including exciting new features and a more personalized homepage,” stated Disney.
Disney began adding Hulu content to Disney+ in 2023. The House of Mouse took full control of Hulu in 2025.
The standalone Hulu app will shut down by the end of 2026.
Streaming was not only thing discussed during Disney’s most recent earnings call. Iger also dished out details about Disney’s theme parks, revealing the company’s Parks and Experiences wing brought in $9 billion in revenue.
