Disneyland’s classic railroad has halted operations again.

The Disneyland Railroad has closed once again for refurbishment at Disney’s original theme park resort in Anaheim, California. The classic attraction stopped rolling on January 13 for an extended closure that’s expected to last for several weeks.
The train previously closed for refurbishment last August to make way for new track pieces and an updated on-ride narration. The railroad reopened in October 2024, complete with new voiceover lines that referenced Disneyland’s newest attraction, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
More pieces of track are expected to be replaced during the Disneyland Railroad’s current closure.

The Disneyland Railroad is perhaps one of the resort’s most iconic and beloved attractions, opening alongside Disneyland in 1955. Not only is the railroad visually striking, but the train is also quite efficient, taking guests around the original Disneyland Park.
Guests can hop aboard the authentic Disneyland railroad for an 18-minute journey that includes four different stops. Along the way, they can see several exhibits, including a miniature version of the Grand Canyon.
The Disneyland Railroad’s refurbishment is expected to be complete by the start of the resort’s 70th anniversary celebration, which starts on May 16.
Walt Disney Chinese was an avid train lover, which is why other Disney theme parks like Magic Kingdom feature their own railroad. Walt was also incredibly passionate about the future of the movement, which is why guests have access to several methods of transportation at the Disney parks, such as the Monorail and the PeopleMover.

The closure of the Disneyland Railroad comes at an interesting time for the resort and the rest of the Disney theme parks, with Magic Kingdom also refurbishing one of its railroad stations.
Disneyland’s other iconic mode of transportation, the Red Trolley Car, is set to permanently close on February 8 at Disney California Adventure, a decision that has proven quite controversial among fans. The classic attraction is closing to make way for Disney’s newest expansion to its Marvel-theme land, Aevengers Campus, which will soon house two new attractions.
