When guests visit a Disney theme park, there are certain rules and regulations that they agree to follow. Disney websites, like the one for the Walt Disney World Resort, have specific lists of things that guests can’t bring into the park, certain behaviors that are not allowed in the parks, activities that are prohibited at the resorts, specific rules involving animals, and a dress code.

While stories about bad guest behavior tend to get a lot of attention, many guests have gone viral for getting “dress coded” in the parks. That means that Disney cast members have deemed their outfits inappropriate, and they either need to purchase new clothes in the park or leave and change.

Specific rules govern dress codes at Disney theme parks, but many cast members aren’t incredibly strict, and clothing that guests have worn in the parks has frequently come under debate.

Here are the dress code rules Disney guests are required to follow:

Proper attire, including shoes and shirts, must be worn at all times. Clothing that drags on the ground is prohibited in theme parks and water parks. Clothing with multiple layers is subject to search. We reserve the right to deny admission to or remove any person wearing attire that we consider inappropriate or attire that could detract from the experience of other Guests. Visible tattoos that could be considered inappropriate, such as those containing objectionable language or designs, are not permitted. There are specific costume guidelines for special events such as Halloween parties and runDisney events; please refer to the additional policies applicable to those events.

Recently, rumors began swirling that Disney was kicking out guests who wore Donald Trump MAGA hats — MAGA stands for “Make America Great Again. The hats have largely become a notable marker of Trump supporters, and the “red hats” have become increasingly controversial.

The story was started by MouseTrap News, a notorious satirical Disney site — think The Onion for Disney fans. While MouseTrap does come up with some very off-the-wall stories, some of them stir up a lot of talk in Disney communities.

With Disney’s strict dress code, stories about no MAGA hats in Disney quickly gained traction, and many people didn’t think it was satirical.

As news of the dress code enforcement gained traction, Disney was questioned about the validity of the claim. And the company has confirmed to syracuse.com that guests who wear MAGA hats will NOT be removed from the theme parks.

On Friday, a Disney spokesperson told syracuse.com | The Post-Standard that “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) hats are not banned at Disney parks after a video shared earlier this month falsely claimed they were.

But the real truth is that Disney never banned MAGA hats in its parks and the videos claiming they did are fake.

Those interested in visiting a Disney park can always consult the dress code for Disney World or Disney Land [sic] before their visit if they have concerns. Certain costumes and props, as well as clothing with objectionable material, including obscene language or graphics, could be in violation.

It is important to note that Disney does not have specific rules about political attire in its parks. So, guests are allowed to wear MAGA hats just as much as other guests can wear Harris/Walz tee shirts if they want to.

Certain politically motivated Disney shirts have recently gone viral and caused a heated debate. The shirt in question depicts Winnie-the-Pooh holding an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle. The phrase above Pooh says, “Stay Strapped or Get Clapped.”

Some guests have been seen walking around the theme parks wearing this shirt, while others have said that cast members have told them they need to change their shirt or leave. It really is up to the specific cast member to make the call.

Do you think Disney should allow politically themed clothing in its parks, regardless of the party it supports? Do you think Disney should allow clothing with weapons on it? Share your thoughts on this controversial topic with us in the comments!
