Just days after news broke that half of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind wasn’t operating, EPCOT opened without the Marvel-themed roller coaster. On Wednesday morning, Walt Disney World Resort guests could book Lightning Lane Single Pass and Virtual Queue reservations but couldn’t access the World Discovery ride.
Earlier this week, thousands of guests missed out on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind because only one side of the indoor roller coaster was operating. Early Boarding Groups weren’t called until late into the evening, and guests faced up to a two-hour wait to ride–this usually takes around 30 minutes. Lightning Lane guests waited up to an hour and a half. Guests whose Boarding Groups weren’t called received a message that they couldn’t be accommodated.
On Wednesday morning, guests made Lightning Lane Single Pass and Virtual Queue selections on the My Disney Experience app. But when they arrived at EPCOT, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind didn’t open with the rest of the theme park. It remains closed into the early afternoon hours, and there is no timeline for its reopening.

“I knew me being able to join the VQ AND get a LLSP for today was too good to be true,” u/spamgoddess commented.
“I had booked a lighting lane this morning,” u/meinmyownhead502 wrote. “Threw a wrench into my opening day plans but this happens.”
One Disney Parks fan claimed to have spoken to a Disney cast member, who said Walt Disney World Resort technicians worked late into Tuesday evening to test the issues with Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
“I spoke to a CM last night who mentioned being there because they signed up to stay late into the morning to help with testing and figuring out the situation,” the Disney Park guest said. “He said that a part was overheating or something to that effect and they have been able to keep the ride running by sending out fewer cars at a specific interval until the part arrives and is implemented and fixed. (Hence running only one side right now, and how slow groups are being called).”
The Disney cast member said they hoped to resolve the issue by Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday at the latest.
“Of course, who knows if what he said was the full story or actual situation, but he seemed knowledgeable and hopefully time will show he was on point!” the EPCOT guest concluded.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind remains indefinitely closed as Disney works to resolve technical issues. Follow Inside the Magic for updates on this developing story.
