A Hong Kong Disney worker has been accused of stealing over HK$3 million ($386,114 USD) worth of theme park equipment. According to a new report from the Dimsum Daily, the investigation began after a different employee alerted local police about the disappearance of select items from the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.
These missing items were stored at the resort’s Lantau Island warehouse and included things like firewall devices, remote controls, and network switches.
The suspect, who remains unnamed, was arrested in Tai Po on Tuesday, March 11, after CCTV footage revealed a vehicle registered to a warehouse employee made trips to the facility between March 1 and March 7. The warehouse spans 10,000 square feet and showed no signs of a security breach.

After further investigation, it was discovered that the employee had sold the equipment to a recycling shop for HK$300,000 ($36,000 USD). The shop owner was also arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.
The shop owner reportedly resold seven boxes of equipment for HK$180,000 to an unidentified buyer.
Authorities have since recovered five boxes of stolen goods from the recycling shop.
The Hong Kong Disneyland Resort is cooperating with the New Territories South Regional Crime Unit, which is now handling the case.
Hong Kong Disneyland is one of the most recent additions to The Walt Disney Company’s collection of theme parks, first opening in 2005. Over the last twenty years, Hong Kong Disney has grown and evolved in big ways, with the resort recently seeing some of the best financial numbers in its history.
Hong Kong Disneyland is comprised of seven different lands, similar to what can be found inside Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida, or Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, and features iconic rides like Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters and “it’s a small world,” as well as exclusive attractions like Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars and Mystic Manor.
Like its American counterparts, big things are on the horizon for the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, with several new expansions now in development. The resort is set to receive its very own Pixar-inspired attraction and Marvel-themed area similar to what is seen at Disneyland in California.
