There’s never been a busier time at Walt Disney World, at least in terms of actual changes to the resort. In just the last few months, fans have seen multiple iconic attractions close to make way for brand-new expansions and other projects.

Magic Kingdom will see one of the largest transformations, with the park’s Frontierland getting a big makeover. The Rivers of America closed in July, along with Magic Kingdom’s Tom Sawyer Island and Liberty Square Riverboat experiences, with plans to turn this area of the park into a new hub based on Pixar’s Cars franchise called Piston Peak.

However, construction is happening all around Walt Disney World, with a somewhat mysterious project continuing inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Even more construction walls have been added to the walled-off site near the entrance to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land inside Hollywood Studios. The walled-off area was previously used as a temporary seating space for Woody’s Lunchbox, a Toy Story-themed quick-service eatery.

Disney has not made any official announcements regarding this work, making it one of the most interesting at the entire resort. This update follows other smaller-scale projects actually inside Galaxy’s Edge, with construction walls, scaffolding, and tarps lining other sections of the Star Wars land.

Galaxy’s Edge opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2019, ushering the park and Disney as a whole into an exciting new direction. This immersive land is full of references to and characters from Disney’s Star Wars sequel trilogy. Two big attractions—Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run—top off the experience.

Looking ahead, Hollywood Studios is in the process of expanding in its own way. In June, the park’s Muppets Courtyard area closed. This hub was where guests could find a number of Muppet-themed locations, including Muppet*Vision 3D, a 4D theater show.

Muppets Courtyard was also home to PizzeRizzo, one of the largest and most unique fast-food joints to grace the Walt Disney World Resort. Featuring fresh pies and relaxing ambiance, PizzeRizzo became a not-so-hidden gem among Disney World fans over the years.

Eventually, Disney’s former Muppets Courtyard will become Monstropolis. Based on the fictional city seen in Pixar’s classic animated film Monsters Inc. (2001), Monstropolis will feature its own selection of dining and attractions, including a new suspended roller coaster.
