Breaking Ground: Disney World Begins Transformation of DinoLand, U.S.A. Into Tropical Americas Land

On January 17, 2025, Disney Imagineers and executives gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the transition of DinoLand, U.S.A., into the highly anticipated Tropical Americas land. Shovels dug into the former Dino-Rama site, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the park.

With construction walls already up and DinoLand, U.S.A. partially closed, Disney is preparing to bring guests a fully reimagined experience. This shift promises exciting attractions, immersive storytelling, and a vibrant atmosphere inspired by the culture, landscapes, and wildlife of Central and South America.

After months of preparation and permit approvals, closures in DinoLand began earlier this month. Iconic sections such as Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama, TriceraTop Spin, Dinosaur Treasures, and Fossil Fun Games have all been shut down.

Construction crews are now hard at work dismantling TriceraTop Spin and removing signage from Dinosaur Treasures. However, key attractions like DINOSAUR, The Boneyard, and Restaurantosaurus remain open for guests to enjoy during this transition. Disney has also confirmed that the show “Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond!” will be unaffected by the changes.

While this marks the end of an era, the closure paves the way for a fresh vision: an 11-acre Tropical Americas land that will redefine the guest experience at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

What to Expect in Tropical Americas Land

Disney’s new land will transport guests to the fictional town of Pueblo Esperanza, inspired by the culture and biodiversity of the Tropical Americas. This immersive area will feature lush environments, authentic architecture, and thrilling attractions.

The Road Ahead for WDW

One highlight is a carousel showcasing hand-carved Disney animal characters, including Kevin, the colorful bird from Disney-Pixar’s Up. The heart of the land will be an Encanto-inspired attraction that goes beyond the film’s story. Guests will step into the Madrigal family’s Casita on Antonio’s birthday, witnessing the moment he receives his magical gift of communicating with animals.

This ride promises to blend beloved characters with innovative storytelling and cutting-edge technology. Another major change will be the transformation of the DINOSAUR attraction into an Indiana Jones-themed adventure. Using the same ride system and track layout as Disneyland’s Indiana Jones Adventure, the updated attraction will introduce an all-new story featuring the iconic archaeologist.

Fans of high-speed thrills and daring escapes won’t want to miss this! Construction on Tropical Americas land is expected to unfold in phases, with the remainder of DinoLand closing within the next year. DINOSAUR will stay operational throughout 2025, ensuring guests can still enjoy the park’s current offerings while new ones take shape.
