Walt Disney World has begun the process of rebuilding the Astro Orbiter attraction in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom following its full removal all the way back in January. The Astro Orbiter closed to guests on January 13th for a lengthy refurbishment. While the exact details of the refurbishment were unknown at the time of closing, the lengthy timeline suggested a full rebuild of the attraction. Once a crane showed up on-site, it was just a matter of weeks before the attraction was dismantled. Now, Walt Disney World has begun the process of rebuilding the ride, and we made it out to Magic Kingdom on a rainy Monday to check out the latest progress.

We decided to hop aboard the Tomorrowland PeopleMover for a (mostly) dry view of the work during a rainy morning at Magic Kingdom today. Here’s a look at the rebuilding of the main ride mechanism as seen from various points around the Tomorrowland PeopleMover track.
Astro Orbiter is scheduled to reopen this Summer. An exact reopening date has not been announced.
