The first construction walls have been installed at strategic points around the Rivers of America as crews prepare for the draining of the river and demolition of Tom Sawyer Island. The construction walls don’t run the length of the river (yet), but rather block off access to areas that are now inaccessible to guests, such as the Tom Sawyer Island dock and Liberty Square Riverboat launch. We made it out to Magic Kingdom today to take a look around.
Construction Walls Arrive for Rivers of America
As you can see in the photos below, there are construction walls up near the Haunted Mansion dock, the Liberty Square Riverboat launch, the exit areas for the Liberty Square Riverboat attraction, and the Tom Sawyer Island launch/dock. Beyond that, the boardwalk along the Rivers of America remains open to guests, and the river is still filled with water.

Imagineering Prepares Tom Sawyer Island for Demolition
Beyond the construction walls, Walt Disney Imagineering was spotted on Tom Sawyer Island, marking props for preservation or demolition. There seemed to be a few different color tags. We weren’t able to make out any of the writing, but we assume a simple red light/green light system for demolition crews. Once the island is properly tagged, it will be ready for demolition.
