The Swiss Family Treehouse walk-through attraction is still looking pretty rough at Magic Kingdom. On a recent visit to Magic Kingdom, we noticed that scrims were still in place and an area of the attraction remained blocked off to guests. We’ll start with some context on what led to this point, and then some photos from our recent visit.
Swiss Family Treehouse Never-Ending Refurbishment
The Swiss Family Treehouse closed on November 18, 2024, for what was supposed to be a month-long refurbishment. At the time, the attraction was scheduled to reopen on December 20th, but it failed to reopen on time. It looked like crews were still very much actively working on the inoperable bucket pulley system and other parts of the attraction.
A few days later, on December 23rd, the attraction finally reopened to guests, but scrims remained in place and a portion of the attraction was closed to guests. My thought at the time was that operations had to make a call to get the attraction open for the busy holiday season and this was their best option at the time. I assumed that the attraction would either re-close or that the work would wrap up shortly after the holidays.
The holiday season came and went, and with crowds back to normal for this time of year, the attraction remains open, but the work is unfinished. I would say that it’s also notable that the refurbishment message is still on the Walt Disney World website as of this morning, but Disney’s own website is, unfortunately, increasingly becoming an unreliable source of information.
When visiting Magic Kingdom recently, we decided to stop by and see if there was any progress on an attraction that appears to be playing the refurbishment Hokey Pokey, with one foot in and one foot out. As you’ll see in the photos below, about 90% of the attraction is open to guests, with the uppermost room still closed off. The tree remains wrapped in green scrims too as Disney (presumably) continues to work on the attraction. Honestly, there isn’t much progress to report more than a month after it reopened.
